How to Cancel Grammarly: Subscription, Free Trial & Refunds

To cancel Grammarly, go to wherever you signed up: cancel on grammarly.com if you subscribed directly through the website, through the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad if you subscribed in the App Store, or through the Google Play Store if you subscribed on Android. Grammarly itself can’t stop charges that Apple or Google are billing on its behalf, so picking the right path is the whole trick. Here is how to cancel Grammarly on each one, plus what to do about trials, business plans, and charges that keep showing up after you thought you were done.

Canceling on the Grammarly Website

If your credit card statement shows the charge coming from Grammarly directly, this is your path. Sign in at grammarly.com, open the Account tab in the left sidebar, choose Your Account, then Subscription. Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription. A window will appear; click Continue, pick a reason for leaving (the final button won’t activate until you do), and click Cancel Subscription once more.1Grammarly Support. Watch for a confirmation email and save it. If a charge shows up later, that email is your proof the cancellation went through.

Canceling on an iPhone or iPad

Apple controls the billing for anything you bought through the App Store, so Grammarly can’t cancel it for you. Open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, select Grammarly, and tap Cancel Subscription. If you don’t see a Cancel button and instead see an expiration date in red text, the subscription has already been canceled.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple This all happens in Settings, not inside the Grammarly app.

Canceling on Android

Android subscribers cancel through the Google Play Store, not the Grammarly app. Open Google Play, go to your subscriptions, select Grammarly, and tap Cancel Subscription, then follow any remaining prompts.3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

One common mistake: uninstalling the Grammarly app does not cancel the subscription. Google keeps billing you until you explicitly cancel through the Play Store’s subscription manager. If you deleted the app months ago and assumed that ended things, open Google Play subscriptions now and check.

Canceling a Free Trial

Canceling a free trial before it ends prevents the first charge. Trial length depends on the offer you accepted, so dig up the confirmation email for the exact end date. The cancellation steps are the same as for a paid plan on whichever platform you signed up through. One difference matters: canceling a free trial ends your Pro access immediately rather than letting you keep the features through the remaining trial days.4Grammarly Support. Business and Team Plans

Only an account administrator can cancel a Grammarly Business or team plan. If you’re a member and not an admin, you can’t cancel yourself out of the subscription; ask whoever manages the organization’s account to do it.5Grammarly Support. Cancel Automatic Renewal of My Subscription

What Happens After You Cancel

Cancellation turns off auto-renewal; it doesn’t shut off your account the same day. If you paid for a year and cancel in month six, Pro features stay available for the rest of the period you already paid for, then your account drops to the free version. Saved documents and your personal dictionary stay intact.1Grammarly Support. How Do I Cancel My Subscription

Don’t expect money back for the unused time. Grammarly’s Terms of Service state that payments are non-refundable,6Grammarly. Terms of Service and the support page says refunds are issued only when required by law.7Grammarly Support. Can I Get a Refund? If you subscribed through the App Store, refund requests go to Apple, which applies its own criteria.

If You’re Charged After Canceling

Start with Grammarly. Submit a request through the Help Center at support.grammarly.com and attach the confirmation email from your cancellation if you have it.

If that doesn’t resolve the charge and you paid by credit card, you have a federal backstop. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you can dispute a billing error by sending written notice to your card issuer within 60 days of the statement showing the charge. The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors The 60-day clock is strict, so don’t sit on it. These protections apply to credit cards; debit cards and direct bank transfers are covered under different and generally weaker rules.

Canceling vs. Deleting Your Account

Canceling stops billing. Deleting erases the account, your saved documents, and your personal data, and you can’t undo it. If you have a free account or your paid subscription has already expired, you can delete it yourself by signing in, going to the Profile page, and clicking Delete Account at the bottom; Grammarly will ask for your password or a sign-in through the connected Google or Facebook account to confirm. If a paid subscription is still active, you can’t use the self-service option and have to submit a support ticket first. Members of an organization’s plan have to be removed by their admin before deletion is possible.9Grammarly Support. Delete Your Grammarly Account
