Frontier verifies identity with the security PIN you set up when service started, or the last four digits of the account holder’s Social Security number. Making the Cancellation Call
When the representative picks up, say plainly that you want to disconnect service. Agents are trained to steer toward retention offers such as discounted rates or equipment upgrades. Those offers can be genuinely useful if price was your reason for leaving, but if you’ve decided, staying firm shortens the call.
Before you hang up, ask for two things: a cancellation confirmation number and the exact date service will end. Write both down. If Frontier later shows the account as active or bills past your disconnect date, that confirmation number is what settles the dispute.
Early Termination Fees and the Disconnect Charge

The exact ETF depends on your agreement. Frontier’s terms say you owe the “applicable early termination fee,” which varies by plan. If you’re not sure whether you’re under a term, check your original order confirmation email or ask the representative for your contract status and the exact fee before you authorize the disconnection.
Separately, Frontier charges a $9.99 disconnection order processing fee at cancellation. It shows up on your final bill whether you were under a term commitment or not.
Your Final Bill Isn’t Prorated
Frontier bills residential internet monthly, and your final bill covers charges through the end of the current billing cycle even if you stop using service earlier.5Frontier. Residential internet service and Frontier-provided equipment charges don’t get partial credits, and the taxes and surcharges attached to those charges aren’t eligible for dispute either.
The practical move: schedule your cancellation call for the last few days of your billing cycle. If auto-pay is on when you disconnect, the final charges hit the payment method already on file. Watch your statement to confirm the amount matches what the representative quoted.
Returning Your Equipment
You have 30 days from the disconnect date to return Frontier-provided equipment, including power cords.5Frontier. What You Return and What You Don’t
Frontier’s return list covers internet routers and Wi-Fi backup devices.6Frontier. How to Return Frontier Equipment Video and TV devices such as DVRs and set-top boxes are not on the return list; Frontier recommends recycling those at a local electronics store or e-waste center. If you have fiber service, leave the Optical Network Terminal (the box on your wall that converts the fiber signal) alone. It isn’t on the return list, and pulling a wall-mounted ONT risks damage to the fiber line and the wall.
Keep the UPS Receipt
When the UPS Store scans your equipment, take the receipt with the tracking number. That receipt is your only proof of return. If the shipment goes missing or Frontier says it never arrived, the tracking number shifts the liability. Hold onto it until the equipment charges clear from your account.
Refunds After Cancellation
If a credit balance is left after your final bill is settled and equipment is processed, Frontier issues a refund. It isn’t quick: refunds process within up to three billing cycles, and after processing you should receive payment within 15 to 20 business days.5Frontier. Disconnecting Your Service

Military Servicemembers Can Skip the ETF
Active-duty servicemembers who receive orders to relocate for 90 days or more to a location where Frontier doesn’t offer service can cancel without paying an early termination fee. Deliver written or electronic notice of termination to Frontier along with a copy of your orders, and specify the date service should end.
