To cancel your Bright Money membership, open the app and go to Settings → Account Info → Membership → Cancel Membership, then follow the prompts to confirm. If the app isn’t working, you can also cancel by email, phone, or live chat. Bright charges $14 per month on the monthly plan, with discounted rates of $39 for three months, $68 for six months, and $97 annually, so canceling before the next billing date is what stops the next charge.1Bright Money. Pricing A clean cancellation usually takes a few minutes. If you also have Bright Builder or money in Bright Stash, those need separate attention.
Cancel Inside the App

If the App Won’t Cooperate
Bright offers three other ways to submit a cancellation:

- Start a live chat from the Help Center in the app or on the Bright website.4Bright Money. General Help
Save whatever confirmation you get. For email, keep the sent message and any reply. For phone or chat, jot down the date, time, and the representative’s name if they give one.
Getting a Refund on a Recent Charge
If Bright just billed you and you want that money back, you can request a refund through a dedicated link in the app under Membership settings, or by asking support over email or live chat.5Bright Money. How Can I Request a Refund for My Bright Membership Fee Refunds can be denied if the request falls outside Bright’s policy terms or if the original charge wasn’t successfully processed.6Bright Money. Under What Circumstances Will My Refund Request Be Denied Bright doesn’t publish detailed eligibility criteria, so ask quickly rather than waiting.
Withdraw Bright Stash Before You Cancel
Any balance in Bright Stash should move back to your linked checking account first. Start the withdrawal in the app and confirm the funds have arrived before you cancel the membership. Money left in Stash after cancellation means going back to support to get it out.
Close Bright Builder Separately
Canceling your membership does not close a Bright Builder credit-building account. That’s a separate product. You can close it in the app or by contacting support.7Bright Money. How Do I Close My Bright Builder Account
When you close, Bright applies your security deposit to any outstanding balance and returns whatever is left to your linked checking account.8Bright Money. How Do I Close My Bright Builder Account If you want the full deposit returned, pay off the balance first instead of letting Bright deduct it.
What Closing Builder Does to Your Credit
Once Builder is closed, Bright stops reporting your payment history to the credit bureaus.9Bright Money. Does Closing Bright Builder Affect Your Score Bright doesn’t predict a specific score change, but losing an active tradeline can shrink your credit mix and, eventually, lower your average account age once the closed account drops off your report. If you opened Builder specifically to build credit, check whether other accounts are reporting positive history before you close it.
Disconnect Bright From Your Bank
Cancellation does not sever the data connection between Bright and your bank. Bright links through Plaid, and that link stays live until you revoke it yourself. Two ways to cut it:

- Inside your bank’s app, look under security or connected apps for a way to revoke third-party access.
Disconnecting through Plaid stops future data sharing but does not delete what Bright already collected. For deletion of previously shared data, you have to ask Bright directly.10Plaid. How Do I Disconnect My Financial Accounts From an App Most people skip this step. Don’t.
Watch the Next Billing Cycle
Check your bank statement through the next billing date. You’re looking for any recurring ACH debit from Bright Money. If one posts after you canceled, Regulation E gives you a backstop: you can stop a preauthorized electronic transfer by notifying your bank at least three business days before the scheduled payment date, either by phone or in writing.11eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.10 – Preauthorized Transfers If you call, your bank may require written confirmation within 14 days.
Also open the Bright app and confirm no active membership is showing. If features or pending charges are still there, contact support again and send your original cancellation confirmation. That screenshot is what turns a long dispute into a short one.
