To cancel Backblaze, sign in at secure.backblaze.com, delete each backup and then remove the unused license from the Overview page, clean out and disable B2 Cloud Storage if you use it, and, if you want to close the account itself, use Delete Account under My Settings. The order matters. Deleted backups are gone instantly, and a license left behind after a backup deletion keeps billing you.
Download or Restore Anything You Want to Keep First
Once you confirm a backup deletion, the data is destroyed immediately and permanently. There is no undo and no grace period. If files exist only in Backblaze, pull them down before you cancel. You can request a zip file restore through the web dashboard, or order a USB drive restore for larger amounts of data.
Have your login email and password ready. If two-factor verification is turned on, keep your authentication app or phone within reach; you will need it to sign in and again to confirm deletions.
Canceling a Personal Backup Subscription
Canceling a personal backup is two steps, and the second one is the step people miss. Deleting the backup wipes your data, but the license itself stays active and keeps billing until you remove it separately.
- Sign in to the Backblaze web console at secure.backblaze.com.
- In the Computer Backup section, find the computer you want to remove and click Delete Backup.
- Enter the confirmation code Backblaze emails to your registered address and click Continue. This permanently deletes all backed-up data for that computer.
- Open the Overview page in the left navigation menu under Computer Backup.
- Scroll to the Unused License section and click Delete.
A license runs $9 per month on a monthly plan or $99 per year on an annual plan, so a forgotten one adds up quickly. Backblaze bills per computer, so if you have several machines backed up, repeat the whole sequence for each.
Canceling B2 Cloud Storage
B2 Cloud Storage is separate from Computer Backup and has to be cleaned out before you can turn it off. Leaving files or buckets behind means storage charges keep accruing.
- Delete all files inside each storage bucket.
- Delete the empty buckets.
- Delete all non-master application keys you have created.
- Delete all snapshots associated with your account.
- Open My Settings from the user menu in the upper-right corner and clear the checkbox for B2 Cloud Storage.
Deleting Your Backblaze Account Entirely
Closing the account is a separate action from canceling services. Handle any active backup licenses and B2 storage first using the steps above, then:
- Go to My Settings from the user menu in the upper-right corner.
- Click Delete Account.
- Verify your identity with the method that matches your security setup: a code sent to your email, a code from your two-factor authentication app, a code sent by SMS, or your account password.
You have two minutes to complete verification before the system makes you start over. If you are using an email or SMS code and it does not arrive in time, you can request another. Deleting the account removes all associated data immediately.
Uninstalling the Backblaze App
Canceling online does not remove the Backblaze application from your computer. The software will sit idle, but it is worth removing.
On Windows 10, right-click the Start Menu, choose Apps and Features, find Backblaze, and click Uninstall. On Windows 11, the path is the same but the option is labeled Installed Apps. On older Windows versions, use Control Panel and Programs and Features.
On a Mac, hold the Option key, click the Backblaze icon in the menu bar, and choose Uninstall from the dropdown. You can also download the Mac installer from Backblaze’s website and run the bundled uninstaller.
Refunds
Refunds depend on your billing plan. Monthly subscribers get none. You can cancel anytime, but the current month is not returned.
On a one-year or two-year plan, you can request a full refund within 30 days of subscribing by contacting Backblaze customer support. After that window, no refunds are available and there is no prorated option for the remaining months. Canceling an annual plan six months in forfeits half the payment.
What Happens to Your Data After You Cancel
Confirmed deletions are immediate and irreversible, whether you are removing a single backup or closing the account. There is no recovery window.
The 30-day figure in Backblaze’s documentation refers to version history on active accounts: while your subscription is running, older versions of changed or deleted files are kept for 30 days so you can roll back mistakes. That is a feature for active users, not a safety net after cancellation.
