How to Cancel AT&T Next Up or Next Up Anytime

You can cancel AT&T Next Up or Next Up Anytime in the myAT&T app, on att.com, or by calling AT&T customer service at 611 from your wireless line. The change takes a few minutes. Before you do it, know that AT&T will not refund the Next Up fees you have already paid, and once you remove the feature from your current installment agreement you cannot add it back to that same phone.1AT&T. The steps are identical whether you are on the older $6 Next Up plan or the current $10 Next Up Anytime.

Before You Start

Each line on a multi-line account has its own add-ons, and it is easy to modify the wrong one.

Cancel in the App or on the Website

This is the fastest route. Sign in to the myAT&T app or att.com, go to your wireless section, and select the line carrying the Next Up charge. Open “My add-ons,” choose Next Up or Next Up Anytime from the list, and follow the prompts to remove it. A confirmation screen appears before the change is finalized.3AT&T. Cancel by Phone or Chat

Dial 611 from your AT&T wireless phone, or call 800-331-0500 from any other number. Wait for a confirmation email or text before assuming the change went through. Keep it. That confirmation is your proof if a billing dispute comes up later.

What Happens to Your Bill

If you cancel mid-cycle, AT&T prorates the charge. You will see a partial credit for the days after removal, usually on the next bill since AT&T bills one month ahead.5AT&T. Guide to Understanding Your AT&T Bill and Proration

The Next Up fees you have already paid in previous months are non-refundable. Those payments do not count toward your device balance, and AT&T will not return them.6AT&T. AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up

Your installment agreement for the phone itself is not affected. You still owe the remaining device balance on the original monthly schedule. What ends is the $6 or $10 monthly fee and the early-upgrade privilege it bought you.

Check Your Promotional Credits First

This is where cancellations go wrong. If you are getting monthly bill credits from a trade-in or other device promotion, look at the original promotion’s terms before removing Next Up. AT&T’s terms state that if wireless service is canceled, promotional credits stop and the full device balance becomes due.7AT&T. AT&T Next Up – Early Phone Upgrade Plan

Removing Next Up is not the same as canceling wireless service, and standard trade-in deals generally do not require the upgrade feature. But if your particular promotion was written to require enrollment in Next Up or Next Up Anytime, dropping the feature could end those credits. Ask a representative to confirm before you cancel. Losing several hundred dollars in credits to save $6 or $10 a month is not a trade worth making.

Removal Is Permanent for the Current Phone

Once Next Up comes off an installment agreement, you cannot add it back to that agreement.1AT&T. AT&T Next Up Removal Policy You give up the option to trade the phone in early for credit toward a new device on that plan, and you will need to pay off the full remaining balance before you can upgrade under a new installment agreement.

One boundary matters here. If you are still inside AT&T’s 14-day return window from the original device purchase, returning the phone cancels the entire installment agreement and any tied promotions, which is a different decision than dropping the add-on.8AT&T.
