To cancel Apple bill charges and get a refund, you have to do two separate things: cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings so future charges stop, then request a refund for the charge you’ve already been billed for at reportaproblem.apple.com. Canceling alone doesn’t return any money. Apple reviews most refund requests within 24 to 48 hours, though its terms state that all transactions are final and refunds are granted at Apple’s discretion. 1Apple. Figure Out What the Charge Actually Is
Charges from Apple appear on bank and credit card statements as “apple.com/bill.” That label covers App Store purchases, subscriptions, music, movies, iCloud+, and anything else billed through your Apple Account. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com to see the full list of purchases tied to your account and match the mystery charge to a specific item. 2Apple Support. Get Help with Charges from apple.com/bill
If Family Sharing is set up with Purchase Sharing turned on, purchases made by other family members bill to the organizer’s payment method. In the same portal, tap the Apple Account button and pick a family member to view their purchases. 2Apple Support. Get Help with Charges from apple.com/bill
If the charge doesn’t show up anywhere in your Apple purchase history, it probably isn’t Apple at all. Look at your bank statement for the real merchant name and contact that company directly. 3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Cancel the Subscription to Stop Future Charges
Canceling stops the next charge. You keep access to whatever you’ve already paid for through the end of the current billing period, but nothing more comes off your card.
On iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Pick the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no cancel button, or you see an expiration date in red, it’s already canceled. 3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple

Free Trials: Cancel Before You’re Charged
Free and discounted trials convert to paid subscriptions automatically when the trial ends. To avoid a charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial period expires. You can cancel the same day you sign up and still use the service for the full trial without losing access early. 3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Most unwanted apple.com/bill charges come from forgotten trials. A calendar reminder set two days before the trial ends is the simplest fix. Once the trial converts and the money is gone, you’re in refund territory instead.
Request a Refund for a Charge You Already Paid
Canceling a subscription doesn’t refund past billing periods. For any completed charge, you have to submit a separate refund request. 5Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought from Apple

- Under “I’d like to,” choose “Request a refund.”

Apple typically sends a decision within 24 to 48 hours. 6Apple Support. Check the Status of a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought from Apple
Apple’s Media Services terms state plainly that “All Transactions are final.” Refunds are granted at Apple’s discretion, generally for accidental purchases, unauthorized charges, or technical problems that prevented delivery, and Apple may refuse a request if it finds evidence of fraud or abuse. 1Apple. How Long Refunds Take
Check the status of a submitted request by signing back in to reportaproblem.apple.com. Once approved, the money moves back to whatever paid for it:
- Apple Account balance (store credit): up to 48 hours.
- Credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, or Apple Cash: up to 30 days, depending on your bank. If it hasn’t posted after 30 days, contact your financial institution.
What Apple Usually Won’t Refund
Consumable in-app purchases, like virtual currency or gems used up inside a game, are non-refundable. They can only be downloaded once and don’t transfer between devices. 1Apple. Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions
Apple’s hardware return policy also excludes electronic software downloads, opened software that has been installed, software upgrades, Apple Gift Cards, and Apple Developer products. 7Apple. Returns and Refunds
Apple doesn’t publish a hard time limit on refund requests, but odds drop the longer you wait. A request filed within a day or two of the charge does much better than one filed weeks later.
If Apple Denies the Refund
When the self-service portal rejects your request, escalate through Apple Support before doing anything else. Go to support.apple.com/contact and pick “Billing and subscriptions.” You can start a live chat or schedule a phone call. 8Apple. Contact – Official Apple Support
The representative opens a case number that follows your issue through any callbacks or transfers, so hang on to it. Support can review your full transaction history and, in some cases, override a denied refund when the circumstances warrant it.
Don’t File a Chargeback With Your Bank
Disputing an Apple charge with your bank or credit card company is risky. Apple treats chargebacks as adversarial, and community reports describe Apple disabling the Apple ID tied to the disputed charges. A disabled Apple ID locks you out of every app, song, movie, and book bought through that account, plus iCloud data, iMessage history, and any active subscriptions. Apple’s systems may count each disputed transaction as a separate incident even when your bank filed a single dispute. Some users have gotten accounts reinstated by contacting Apple afterward, but it isn’t guaranteed and can take weeks. Exhaust Apple’s own channels first.
Stop the Charge From Happening Again Through Family Sharing
If the charge came from a family member’s purchase, the fix is on the Family Sharing side. Turning on Ask to Buy requires kids to get the organizer’s approval before any purchase or free download goes through. In the United States, Ask to Buy is on by default for children under 13 and can be enabled for any family member under 18. 9Apple Support. Turn On Ask to Buy for Family Sharing Purchases on Mac
To turn Purchase Sharing off entirely, go to Settings, tap your name, then Family Sharing, then Purchase Sharing, and toggle off Share Purchases with Family. After that, each family member’s purchases bill only to their own payment method.
A Note on Canceling iCloud+
Canceling iCloud+ is different from canceling other subscriptions because you lose services along with the charge. Your storage drops back to the free 5 GB tier, and features like Hide My Email, Private Relay, Apple Invites, and HomeKit Secure Video go away. If your stored data is over 5 GB after the downgrade, iCloud stops syncing new information and stops completing device backups until you either buy more storage or delete enough to fit. If you changed plans and want to reverse it, contact Apple within 14 days to request a refund. 10Apple Support. Downgrade or Cancel Your iCloud+ Plan
