To cancel an OCBC credit card, log into the OCBC app or internet banking and use the card cancellation form under Card Services, call the hotline at 1800 363 3333, or visit any OCBC branch with your ID and the card. The bank takes about five working days to process the request. The harder part is what you do before submitting it: unredeemed rewards disappear, active instalment plans trigger immediate repayment plus a S$150 administrative fee, and every GIRO arrangement tied to the card goes with it.
Consider a Fee Waiver Before You Cancel
If the annual fee is the reason you want out, try a waiver first. In the OCBC app, tap “More,” go to “Card Services,” and select “Request fee waiver.” You can also call 1800 363 3333 and say “credit card fee waiver” at the voice prompt.1OCBC Singapore. Card Services | Help & Support Approval isn’t guaranteed, but the request takes a couple of minutes and spares you the admin of cancelling now and reopening a new card later.
What to Settle Before You Submit the Request
Outstanding Balance and Trailing Interest
When OCBC processes the cancellation, any outstanding amount on the card becomes due in one shot.2OCBC Bank. Credit Card Maintenance Form You don’t technically need a zero balance to submit, but it’s cleaner if you do. Check your latest statement for pending transactions that haven’t posted yet.
Trailing interest catches people out. If you carried a balance in a previous cycle, interest keeps accruing daily between the statement date and the day your payment lands. You can pay the statement in full, think you’re done, and still see a small residual charge on the next one. Review whatever final statement arrives after cancellation and settle any leftover before it ages into unpaid.
Redeem Your OCBC$ Rewards
Any unredeemed OCBC$ are forfeited the moment the account closes. The rewards terms state that unutilised points “shall automatically be cancelled and become null and void” and cannot be moved to another card.3Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited. OCBC Rewards Programme Terms and Conditions Depending on your card you can redeem them against the catalogue, convert to KrisFlyer miles, apply them as cash credit to your statement, or spend them at merchants through Instant Rewards. Do this before you submit the cancellation. Once it’s in, the points are gone.
Move Your GIRO Arrangements and Standing Instructions
Pull up the last few statements and list every recurring charge on the card: utilities, insurance, telco, subscriptions, gym. Any GIRO arrangement or standing instruction linked to the card is terminated when the account closes.2OCBC Bank. Credit Card Maintenance Form You’ll need to redirect each one to another card or bank account with the billing organisation directly. Do it at least a full billing cycle ahead, because OCBC won’t remind you after the card is gone, and the first you’ll hear about a missed payment is a late fee from the service provider.
Existing GIRO arrangements can be managed through the OCBC app or internet banking under payments and transfers.4OCBC Singapore. How to Manage GIRO Arrangements
Close Out Active Instalment Plans
Active Instalment Payment Plans (IPP), PayLite, or Cash-on-Instalments tied to the card are called in on cancellation. The full remaining principal becomes immediately repayable, and OCBC adds a non-refundable administrative fee of S$150 for IPP and PayLite. For Cash-on-Instalments, the fee is S$150 or 3% of the unbilled outstanding principal, whichever is higher.2OCBC Bank. Credit Card Maintenance Form These fees aren’t negotiable. If you’re a few months from finishing a plan, it’s often cheaper to wait than to pay the early termination charge.
Supplementary Cards
Supplementary cards sit under the principal cardholder’s account, and cancelling the account cancels them too. Under the OCBC Cardmembers Agreement, the principal cardholder can terminate any or all cards on the account by giving written notice, and the principal cardholder remains liable for everything charged to the supplementary cards.5OCBC. How to Submit the Cancellation
Online Through the App or Internet Banking
The quickest route is digital. Internet banking users can access the online cancellation form directly.6OCBC Bank. OCBC Credit Card Cancellation Form In the app, tap “More” at the bottom right, go to Card Services, pick the card, and confirm. Three situations push you off the online channel: OCBC Voyage cards, 90N cards, and any case where the card you’re cancelling is your only credit card with the bank. For those, you have to call.1OCBC Singapore. Card Services | Help & Support
By Phone
Call 1800 363 3333 from Singapore, or +65 6363 3333 from overseas.1OCBC Singapore. Card Services | Help & Support You’ll pass through an automated voice menu, so have your 16-digit card number ready for verification. A representative can record the cancellation and also confirm any outstanding balance, instalment payoff amount, or applicable fee on the call. Ask for a reference number before you hang up.
At a Branch
Walking into a branch is the right call if your situation is tangled: multiple instalment plans, supplementary cards, or questions you want answered before you commit. Bring a government-issued ID and the card itself. The officer can confirm the account status, process the paperwork, and tell you about any charges before you leave.
After You Submit
Processing takes about five working days, and termination isn’t instant. Anything charged to the card up to the actual point of termination is still your responsibility, so stop using the card the moment you submit the request.2OCBC Bank. Credit Card Maintenance Form
OCBC confirms the cancellation by physical letter, not SMS. Once that arrives, cut the card through the chip and magnetic stripe. If you had a tokenised version added to Apple Pay, Google Wallet, or a smartwatch, delete it from every device. The Cardmembers Agreement requires either returning the card cut in pieces or deleting any tokenised versions.5OCBC. OCBC Cardmembers Agreement
Keep watching for one more statement. Late-posted merchant charges and residual interest can land after the account is closed. If something unexpected appears, call the hotline straight away so it doesn’t age into a reported unpaid balance.
How Cancelling Affects Your Credit Score
Credit Bureau Singapore (CBS) tracks your credit history on a score from 1000 to 2000, and a cancellation can move the needle in two ways.
Closing the card removes its credit limit from your total available credit. If you carry balances on other cards, your utilisation ratio rises because the same debt is now measured against a smaller limit. Lenders in Singapore generally treat utilisation above 30% as a warning sign, so cancelling a card while you’re carrying balances elsewhere can push you over that line without any new spending.
Closed accounts also stay on your CBS report. Payment history for a closed card remains visible for three years from the closure date, so a strong repayment record keeps working for you for a while before it drops off. If you only have one or two credit accounts to begin with, closing one has a larger proportional effect than it would for someone with several.
If you’re planning a mortgage or other large loan application in the near future, time the cancellation so the utilisation jump doesn’t land right when a lender is pulling your file.
