How to Cancel Ampion and Avoid Early Termination Fees

To cancel Ampion, email a written cancellation request to help@ampion.net or call (800) 277-3631.1Ampion. Contact Us Most Ampion subscriber agreements require 90 days’ written notice, and during that window you remain responsible for any solar credits applied to your utility bill.2New York Department of Public Service. Community Distributed Generation Disclosure Form There is no early termination fee, but the full unwinding takes a few billing cycles because your utility has to process the de-enrollment on its own schedule.

How to Send Your Cancellation Request

Email is the most reliable channel. Write to help@ampion.net and state plainly that you want to terminate your subscription. Include your full name, the service address tied to the account, and your utility account number so the Ampion team can locate your subscription without a back-and-forth.1Ampion. Contact Us A short message is enough: “I am requesting cancellation of my Ampion community solar subscription. My name is [X], my service address is [Y], and my utility account number is [Z].”

You can also call (800) 277-3631 during business hours. If you cancel by phone, follow up with an email that notes the date, time, and name of the representative you spoke with. Written notice is what the contract requires, so a phone call alone may not satisfy the notice provision.

Ampion’s online member portal shows your account details, invoices, generation data, and signed contracts, but the available contract documents do not describe a self-service cancellation option in the portal.2New York Department of Public Service. The 90-Day Notice Period

Ampion’s subscriber agreements typically require 90 days’ written notice to cancel.2New York Department of Public Service. Community Distributed Generation Disclosure Form The clock starts when Ampion receives your written request, not when you decide you want out. Your subscription stays active through that period.

This is the part people miss. Even after you’ve sent the cancellation email, solar credits can keep landing on your utility bill for up to three months, and you’ll keep getting corresponding invoices from Ampion. The contract is explicit: you must pay for any credits actually allocated to your account until the utility finishes removing you from the subscriber list.3New York Department of Public Service. Is There an Early Termination Fee?

No. Ampion’s disclosure forms list the cancellation fee as $0, and the contract states, “There is no fee for any early termination of this agreement.”2New York Department of Public Service. Community Distributed Generation Disclosure Form

“No termination fee” is not the same as “no final charges.” You still owe for solar credits delivered to your utility account during the notice period, and any outstanding Ampion invoices do not disappear when you cancel. Check your account balance before you submit the request so you know what to expect during the wind-down.

The Three-Day Cooling-Off Right

If you signed up for Ampion through a door-to-door salesperson or at an event outside a permanent retail location, the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule gives you three business days to cancel with no penalty and no obligation.4Federal Trade Commission. Cooling-off Period for Sales Made at Home or Other Locations It applies to sales over $25 where the seller came to you.

Ampion’s contract references this right directly and tells new subscribers to call (800) 277-3631 or email help@ampion.net within three business days of signing to terminate without penalty.2New York Department of Public Service. Community Distributed Generation Disclosure Form If you’re inside that window, skip the 90-day process and exercise the right immediately. Put it in writing and save the confirmation.

What Happens After the Notice Period Ends

Once the 90 days expire, Ampion instructs your utility to remove the solar credit allocation. The utility doesn’t act instantly. Expect one to two additional billing cycles before the credits stop appearing on your electric bill, and during that overlap you still owe Ampion for any credits that land on your utility statement.

The contract puts a cap on this: you must continue paying for credits received for up to 90 days after your chosen cancellation date, or until the utility confirms it has processed the removal, whichever comes first.3New York Department of Public Service. Community Solar Project Subscription Agreement Any unused credits rolling over from previous months are applied according to your utility’s tariff rules. Once de-enrollment is finalized, no further credits transfer and the financial relationship ends.

If You’re Moving

Canceling isn’t always the right move when you relocate. If your new home is in the same utility territory, you may be able to transfer the subscription instead of starting the 90-day clock. Contact Ampion with your new address and new utility account number to ask whether a transfer is possible.

If you’re moving into a different utility’s service area, a transfer depends on whether Ampion has a solar farm serving that location. When no compatible project exists, cancellation is the only option. Notify Ampion before your old utility account closes. If the old account shuts down without notice to Ampion, the subscription may be canceled automatically, but you could still owe for credits allocated before the account closed.

If Ampion Won’t Process Your Cancellation

Most cancellations go through without drama. If Ampion ignores your request, delays, or keeps billing you past the notice period, you have options beyond follow-up emails. Save your original cancellation email with its sent-date timestamp, any confirmation replies, and copies of invoices received after your notice period should have ended. That timestamp is your best evidence of when the notice period began if a billing dispute arises later.

Then escalate:

  • Call (800) 277-3631 and ask for a supervisor. Reference your original written cancellation date and the 90-day contractual notice period.
  • File a complaint with your state public utility commission. Every state has a regulatory body overseeing energy providers, and most allow online filing. You’ll typically need to show you tried resolving the issue with the company first.
  • File a complaint with your state attorney general. Billing that continues after the notice period expired may fall under your state’s consumer protection or unfair trade practices laws.

Community solar providers operate under regulatory frameworks that state commissions oversee, and a formal complaint often produces a faster response than months of customer-service emails.

Unpaid Balances and Your Credit Report

An Ampion subscription is not a loan and doesn’t involve financing, so canceling the service itself won’t show up on your credit report. If you stop paying invoices for credits that were legitimately allocated to your utility account during the notice period, that unpaid balance can eventually be sent to collections, and collection accounts can appear on your credit report and lower your score.

The safer approach is to keep paying Ampion’s invoices through the full wind-down, even after you’ve sent cancellation notice. Dispute charges you believe are incorrect in writing rather than ignoring them. Once your utility confirms de-enrollment is complete, verify that no further invoices arrive. If they do, that’s a billing error worth escalating through the complaint process above.
