To cancel most Amazon subscriptions on the app, open the Amazon mobile app, tap the profile icon at the bottom of the screen, go to Your Account, then Memberships & Subscriptions, pick the service you want to end, and tap Cancel Subscription. The flow is nearly identical for Music Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Video channel add-ons. Prime, Subscribe & Save, Appstore subscriptions, and Audible each have their own quirks worth knowing before you start tapping.
Canceling a Digital Subscription
Services like Amazon Music Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Video channel add-ons all share one cancellation path in the app:
- Tap the person-shaped profile icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Your Account, then scroll to Memberships & Subscriptions.
- Find the subscription and tap it.
- Tap Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.
Amazon will ask you to confirm. Before the final confirmation appears, you may see a screen offering a discount or a pause option; tap past those if you want to go through with it.1Amazon. Manage Your Amazon Subscriptions
You keep access until the end of your current billing period for most services. Amazon Music Unlimited, for example, lets you keep listening until the plan ends, at which point your songs and podcasts are grayed out.2Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription Kindle Unlimited works the same way: borrowed books stay readable until the cycle expires.
Canceling Amazon Prime
Prime has its own flow. In the app, go to Your Account, tap the Prime membership section, and follow the prompts. Amazon walks you through several retention offers and reminders about the benefits you’ll give up. Keep tapping through until you hit the final confirmation.3Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime
If the app flow stalls, you can also reach a live agent. Tap Help, then Help with Something Else, then Prime, and ask to cancel.
A few things worth knowing before you confirm:
- If you haven’t used any Prime benefits since your last charge, you’re eligible for a full refund of the current period, usually processed within three to five business days. If you cancel within three business days of signing up or converting from a free trial, you also qualify for a full refund, though Amazon may deduct the value of benefits you used in that window.4Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions
- If you’ve used benefits like free shipping or Prime Video and you’re past the three-business-day window, the fee is non-refundable under the standard terms. Some users report getting prorated refunds by asking a live agent, but that outcome isn’t in the written policy.
- Free shipping, Prime Video, and Prime Reading stay active until the end of your paid period.
- Standalone channels you added through Prime Video, such as Paramount+ or a sports channel, keep billing on their own after Prime ends. Cancel those separately through Memberships & Subscriptions.3Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime
- If you signed up for Prime through Google Play on an Android device, you can’t cancel through the Amazon app. Use Google’s subscription management instead.
Stopping a Subscribe and Save Delivery
Subscribe & Save works on a shipping timeline, so timing is the whole game. In the app, go to Your Account, open Your Subscribe & Save Items, tap the Subscriptions tab, pick the item, and choose cancel.5Amazon. Change Your Subscribe and Save Delivery Schedule
Each subscription shows a “Last day to update this order” date on your Manage Your Deliveries page. Cancel before that date or the next shipment goes out. Once an order enters the shipping process, you can’t stop it.6Amazon. Cancel Your Subscribe and Save Subscription Payment is submitted on the date the item ships, so missing the cutoff means paying for one more delivery.7Amazon. Subscribe and Save Terms and Conditions
Amazon may ask why you’re canceling. That screen is optional and doesn’t affect whether the cancellation goes through.
Canceling an Appstore Subscription
Third-party subscriptions you bought through the Amazon Appstore (common on Fire tablets and Fire TV) live under a different menu:
- Go to Your Account.
- Select Your Apps under Digital Content and Devices.
- Select Your Subscriptions under Manage.
- Find the subscription and turn off auto-renewal or cancel it.
Turning off auto-renewal lets you keep access for the time you already paid for.8Amazon. Manage Your Appstore Subscriptions from the Website If you still want to use what’s left of the billing cycle, that’s the option to pick.
What About Audible
Audible is the exception. You generally can’t cancel it through the Amazon app. The standard route is the Audible website. If you first subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you’ll need to cancel through that platform’s subscription manager.
Use any remaining credits before you cancel. Once your final billing cycle ends, unused credits disappear along with Plus Catalog access. Audiobooks you bought with credits or paid for directly stay in your library whether or not you remain a member.9Audible. Cancel Membership
Confirming the Cancellation Went Through
Check two things after you cancel. Go back to Memberships & Subscriptions and confirm the status reads as canceled or shows the date your access expires. Then watch for a confirmation email at the address on your account.10Amazon. Cancel Items and Orders
Save that email. If a charge still shows up on your card after you’ve confirmed the cancellation, the email is what you use when disputing the charge with your bank or with Amazon.
Your Right to a Simple Cancellation
The FTC’s Click-to-Cancel rule requires sellers to make cancellation as easy as signing up. Businesses can’t bury the cancel option or add steps that weren’t part of the sign-up. The rule also bars misrepresenting subscription terms and requires clear disclosure of material terms before billing information is collected.11Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule Making It Easier for Consumers to End Recurring Subscriptions and Memberships If you genuinely can’t cancel an Amazon subscription through the methods above, that’s worth reporting at ftc.gov.
