To cancel an Amazon Prime Video subscription, sign in to Amazon, open Account & Lists, choose Memberships & Subscriptions, find Prime Video or Prime Membership, and follow the cancellation flow through to the final confirmation screen. The exact path depends on whether you have standalone Prime Video (around $8.99 per month) or a full Amazon Prime membership ($14.99 per month or $139 per year), and on where you originally signed up. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, you have to cancel through them instead.
Check Which Plan You’re Actually Canceling
Amazon sells two different things that both include streaming. Standalone Prime Video covers only the video service. A full Prime membership bundles video with shipping, music, photos, and other perks. Canceling the wrong one could leave you paying for something you don’t want, or wipe out benefits you meant to keep.
Open the Your Memberships and Subscriptions page on Amazon’s website. It lists every active, canceled, and expired subscription on your account, with renewal dates, prices, and the payment method on file.1Amazon. Cancel on Amazon’s Website
This is the most reliable route, and it works for both standalone Prime Video and full Prime.
- Sign in at amazon.com, hover over Account & Lists, and select Memberships & Subscriptions.
- Find Prime Video or Prime Membership and click the manage or cancel option.
- Click through the retention screens. Amazon will offer a cheaper plan, a pause, or a reminder of what you’ll lose.
- Confirm on the final screen. That is what actually stops the auto-renewal.2Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership
Clicking past the first screen isn’t the same as canceling. The flow spans several pages, and closing the browser before the last confirmation changes nothing. Look for a confirmation email, or return to Memberships & Subscriptions and check that an end date now appears.
Cancel in the Amazon Mobile App
The Amazon shopping app mirrors the website. Tap the profile icon, open Account, then Memberships & Subscriptions, and follow the same flow. On a small screen it’s easy to miss the muted “continue to cancel” link sitting under a bright “keep my membership” button, so scroll carefully.
The Prime Video apps on streaming devices like Fire TV and Roku won’t let you cancel from inside them. They are built for watching, not account management. Use a web browser or the Amazon shopping app instead.3Amazon Prime Video. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
If You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
Amazon can’t cancel a subscription you started in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Those follow the platform’s billing cycle and refund rules, and you have to cancel them where you signed up.
Apple
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, find Prime Video, and tap Cancel Subscription.4Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, go to Account Settings, and find Subscriptions under Manage. Apple requires cancellation at least 24 hours before the next renewal date, or you’ll be charged for another cycle.5Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
Google Play
Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, go to Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select Prime Video and tap Cancel. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Add-On Channels Are Separate
Channels like Paramount+, Starz, and AMC+ that you subscribed to through Prime Video are billed separately and won’t cancel automatically when you cancel Prime or Prime Video. Go to Account & Settings, open Your Subscriptions, find the channel, and click Unsubscribe.5Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
If Amazon offers an immediate self-service refund during that flow and you accept it, the channel shuts off right away. Otherwise you keep access until the end date shown on the confirmation screen.5Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription Check each channel individually or you’ll keep getting billed.
When You Can Get a Refund
Amazon’s refund policy is generous in the first few days and much tighter after that.
Cancel within three business days of signing up or converting from a free trial, and Amazon refunds the full membership fee. They can subtract the value of any Prime benefits you used during those three days, but the base fee comes back.6Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions
After three business days, a full refund requires that you haven’t used a single Prime benefit since the most recent charge. No free shipping orders, no Prime Video streaming, no Prime Music. Use any benefit and the fee is non-refundable under standard policy.6Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions
A prorated refund for the unused portion of an annual plan isn’t guaranteed through the standard cancellation flow. Some annual members have reported success asking customer service through live chat for a partial refund, but there’s no promise.
Pause Instead of Cancel
If you only want a break, Amazon lets you pause a monthly or annual Prime membership for up to one year. Billing and benefits stop during the pause, and your account stays intact until you resume. Go past 365 consecutive days without resuming and Amazon cancels the membership on its own.7Amazon Customer Service. Pause Your Amazon Prime Membership The pause option surfaces inside the cancellation flow as one of the retention offers.
Your Access and Content After Cancellation
Your Memberships and Subscriptions page will show the exact date your access ends. You keep everything until that date on both monthly and annual plans, and you can reverse the cancellation from the same page if you change your mind before then.5Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
Movies and TV shows you outright purchased from Amazon’s digital store stay in your library after cancellation, and you can still rent or buy new titles without Prime. Amazon’s terms do note that purchased digital content “may become unavailable due to potential content provider licensing restrictions or for other reasons,” so these are long-term licenses rather than files you own.
Anything included free with Prime Video disappears when your paid period ends. Watchlist titles from the Prime catalog, partially finished series, and downloaded episodes all become inaccessible. Finish what you care about before the end date.
