To cancel your Amazon Prime membership and get a refund, sign in and go to amazon.com/mm/pipeline/cancellation, then follow the prompts through Amazon’s retention screens to the final confirmation.1Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime You’ll get a full refund of the current period’s fee only if you haven’t used any Prime benefits (shipping, streaming, and so on) since your last charge. If you have used benefits, the fee is generally non-refundable. The whole cancellation takes about two minutes.
Steps to Cancel
The fastest path is the dedicated cancellation page. Go to amazon.com/mm/pipeline/cancellation, or type “cancel Prime” into the Amazon help bar. Amazon will show a summary of the benefits you’re giving up and offer to keep or downgrade your membership. Click past those screens until you reach the final confirmation button.1Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime The flow is the same on a desktop browser and a phone browser.
In the Amazon mobile app, tap the profile icon at the bottom of the screen and open your Prime membership settings. The app routes you through the same retention screens before reaching the cancel button.
If you’d rather talk to someone, open the Customer Service Homepage, select “Help with something else,” then “Prime.” From there you can request a callback or start a live chat. That’s useful if you’re also disputing a charge, since the representative can handle the cancellation and the refund question in one conversation.1Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime
When You Get a Refund
Refund eligibility comes down to whether you’ve used Prime since your last billing date. If you haven’t placed an order using Prime shipping or streamed any Prime Video content in the current period, you qualify for a full refund of that period’s fee. Amazon processes the refund in three to five business days.1Amazon. How to Cancel Amazon Prime
If you have used benefits during the current billing period, Amazon’s terms say the fee is non-refundable, and there’s no guaranteed prorated refund for partial use.2Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions – Section: Membership Cancellation
There is a separate three-business-day grace window. If you cancel within three business days of first signing up or of converting a free trial to a paid membership, Amazon will refund the full fee, though it may deduct the value of any benefits you used during those three days.2Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions – Section: Membership Cancellation
The same refund rules apply to discounted plans like Prime for Young Adults: full refund if no benefits were used since the last charge, no refund if they were.2Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions – Section: Membership Cancellation
Canceling During a Free Trial
If you’re on a free trial and don’t want to be charged, cancel before the trial’s expiration date. Amazon converts trials to paid memberships automatically at the standard rate if you do nothing. You can cancel any time during the trial and keep access to Prime benefits through the end of the trial period without being billed. If you miss the deadline and get charged, the three-business-day refund window still applies, so act quickly once you see the charge.2Amazon. Gift and Promotional Memberships
Memberships activated with a gift code or promotional code are not refundable at all, regardless of whether benefits were used.2Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions – Section: Membership Cancellation You can still cancel to prevent future renewals, but don’t expect money back.
What Ends and What Doesn’t
After you cancel, your Prime benefits continue through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for. Once that date passes, you lose free two-day shipping, Prime Video streaming, Prime Music, Prime Reading, and Prime Gaming access. Your Amazon account itself stays open, so you can still shop without the Prime perks.
Digital content you bought outright (as opposed to rented or streamed through Prime) generally stays in your library after cancellation. Amazon’s terms say purchased content will “continue to be available” for download or streaming, though it could become unavailable if licensing changes.
One thing that does not end automatically: third-party channel subscriptions you added through Prime Video, such as Paramount+, Starz, or AMC+. Those keep billing separately until you cancel each one. Go to “Manage Your Subscriptions” in your account and select “Unsubscribe” for each add-on. You’ll keep access to that channel through the end of its current billing period.3Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
Pausing Instead of Canceling
If you’re not sure you want to give up Prime, Amazon lets you pause the membership. Pausing stops billing at the end of your current cycle and suspends all benefits until you resume. Monthly plan holders can pause for one month with automatic resumption, or for up to a year with manual resumption. Annual plan holders can pause for up to a year with manual resumption only.4Amazon. Pause Your Amazon Prime Membership
Two catches. If your membership stays paused for more than 365 consecutive days, Amazon cancels it automatically. And when you resume, you’ll pay whatever the current rate is at that time, not the rate you had before.4Amazon. Pause Your Amazon Prime Membership Pausing also isn’t available if you joined through a third party, have a Prime Video-only or Prime Shipping-only plan, a Prime Business account, a Student Prime membership, or a free trial.

Amazon has a dedicated bereavement team for this. Email bereavement-support-cs@amazon.com with:5Amazon. Bereavement Support
- A copy of the death certificate
- The email address or phone number linked to the account
- Probate or executor documentation showing you’re the legal representative of the estate
- A photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or ID card) for the person making the request
If you don’t have all four, Amazon can still terminate subscriptions, stop recurring deliveries, and deactivate the account with just the death certificate and the email or phone number on the account. If you don’t know the email or phone number, provide a charge ID or order number from a delivery package, a confirmation email, or a payment statement so Amazon can locate the account.5Amazon.
