To cancel a teleprompter subscription, go to whichever platform is actually billing you — Apple, Google Play, PayPal, or the app developer’s own website — and cancel from your account there. The steps differ by platform, and canceling in the wrong place does nothing while the charges keep coming. Timing matters too: cancel before the next billing date to avoid another charge, and remember that canceling stops future charges but doesn’t automatically refund the last one.
Find Out Who Is Billing You
Check your credit card or bank statement for the billing descriptor. Apple charges usually appear as “apple.com/bill” or “itunes.com/bill.”1Apple Support. Get Help with Charges from apple.com/bill Google Play charges show as “GOOGLE*” followed by the app or developer name. PayPal transactions list the merchant name next to a PayPal reference.
If your statement is unclear, search your email inbox for “receipt,” “invoice,” or “subscription.” The original purchase confirmation will name the platform that processed the payment. Many teleprompter apps have similar names, and canceling through the wrong one leaves your subscription active.
Cancel Through the Apple App Store
If Apple is the billing source, you can cancel from an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or a web browser. The subscription stays active until the end of the billing period you already paid for.2Apple. Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions
iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find the teleprompter app and tap Cancel Subscription.
Mac
Open the App Store, click your name in the bottom-left corner, then click Account Settings. Scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage. Select the app and click Cancel Subscription.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Web Browser
Go to account.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and follow the on-screen instructions to manage and cancel subscriptions.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Cancel Through Google Play
On Android, open the Play Store app and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find the teleprompter app, tap Cancel subscription, and follow every prompt through the final confirmation screen. If you stop before that last screen, the subscription is still active.
You keep access until the end of the current period; Google does not refund the current billing cycle when you cancel.4Google. Google Play Terms of Service One narrow exception: Google may issue a refund within 48 hours of a subscription charge, depending on the circumstances.5Google Help. From a computer, go to play.google.com, sign in, click your profile icon, and open Payments & subscriptions. The steps mirror the mobile version.
Cancel Through PayPal
If your statement shows PayPal, log in and go to Settings, then Payments, then Subscriptions and saved businesses (sometimes labeled “Automatic Payments”). Select the teleprompter merchant and cancel the automatic payment.6PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One
In the PayPal app, tap the menu icon, then Subscriptions or Linked Businesses, select the merchant, tap Stop Paying with PayPal, then Unlink to confirm.6PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One
Canceling through PayPal stops future PayPal charges but does not tell the app developer you’ve quit. Log in to the teleprompter app itself as well and cancel from your account there to keep your status consistent on both sides.
Cancel Directly on the Developer’s Website
If you signed up on the teleprompter company’s own site rather than an app store, you have to cancel there. Log in, open account settings or billing, and look for a cancellation option. Some developers hide it behind a feedback form or several confirmation screens.
Federal law is on your side. The Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act requires businesses that sell subscriptions online to provide “simple mechanisms” for consumers to stop recurring charges.7Congress.gov. Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act If a company forces you to call a phone number, sit through a retention pitch, or clear hurdles that weren’t there at sign-up, that’s a red flag. The FTC has enforced these requirements and pushed for rules making cancellation as easy as sign-up.8Federal Trade Commission. Cancel Before a Free Trial Converts
Most teleprompter apps offer a free trial that quietly rolls into a paid subscription. The safest habit is to cancel the moment you start the trial. On Apple and Google, canceling a trial doesn’t end your access early — you keep using the app through the trial’s scheduled end date.
Apple requires you to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple Google Play doesn’t publish a specific cutoff, but canceling right after starting removes the risk.
Confirm the Cancellation Went Through
Don’t trust the button; verify. On Apple devices, return to Subscriptions in Settings. A canceled subscription shows an expiration date in red text and no Cancel button.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple On Google Play, the entry should read “Canceled” under Payments & subscriptions.
For a website cancellation, look for a confirmation email. If none arrives, take a screenshot of the cancellation screen and the account page showing the subscription as inactive. That documentation matters if a charge shows up later.
Export Your Scripts First
Once your subscription lapses, you may lose access to scripts stored in the app. Some apps delete user data after a retention period; others keep it but lock you out until you resubscribe. Export anything you want to keep before you cancel.
Teleprompter.com, for example, lets you export scripts as plain text (.txt) or in a proprietary .teleprompter format that preserves formatting for later re-import.9Teleprompter.com. How Can I Export a Script in the Teleprompter.com App Other apps have similar options in the script editor or account settings. Plain text is the most portable format. If your app has no export function, copy and paste each script into a document by hand.
Request a Refund for the Last Charge
Canceling stops future charges. It does not refund the most recent one. If you were billed for a renewal you didn’t want, request a refund separately.
For Apple, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the charge, and submit a request. Apple doesn’t guarantee refunds, but accidental renewals and charges after an attempted trial cancellation are common approved reasons.10Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought from Apple Wait until the charge posts and you receive an email receipt; you can’t request a refund on a pending charge.
For Google Play, you can request a refund within 48 hours of the charge through the Play app or play.google.com. After 48 hours, Google directs you to the app developer, who controls refund decisions at that point.5Google Help. Apps, Games, and In-App Purchases (Including Subscriptions) Refund Policies
What to Do If Charges Keep Coming
A charge that appears after a confirmed cancellation is a billing error, and you have legal tools to fight it. First, contact the billing platform with your cancellation confirmation. Most cases resolve at this stage when you can show proof.
If the platform won’t help, dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you have 60 days from the date the first bill containing the error was sent to you to submit a written dispute.11Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges Send it in writing to the billing inquiries address your issuer designates (not the payment address), and include your account number, the date and amount of the charge, and a short explanation. While the issuer investigates, it cannot report the disputed amount as delinquent or try to collect it.
For debit card charges, or if the 60-day window has passed, ask your bank about a chargeback. Consumers typically have up to 120 days from the transaction date, though the exact window varies by card network. Save every screenshot, confirmation email, and chat transcript. The people who lose these disputes are almost always the ones who can’t prove they canceled.
