How to Cancel a Mutual Subscription: iPhone, Android, or PayPal

To cancel a Mutual subscription (the app now called Premium, formerly MutualUp), go to the platform that bills you—Apple, Google Play, PayPal, or Mutual’s own website—and cancel there. Deleting the app or your Mutual profile does not stop the charges. The billing lives with whichever service processed your original signup, and that’s the only place a cancellation actually takes effect.

Find Out Who’s Charging You

Check your bank or credit card statement first. A line that reads “Apple.com/Bill” means Apple handles the billing. “GOOGLE*Play” means Google. A charge labeled “Mutual” usually means you subscribed directly on mutual.app/premium, and PayPal charges point to PayPal as the payment processor.

You can also open the Mutual app, tap your profile, go to Settings, and look for the subscription management screen. It shows which Apple ID or Google account is tied to your billing. If you’ve changed phones or email accounts since subscribing, confirm this before you start clicking around in the wrong account.

One quick note if nothing shows up when you look: you’re probably signed in with a different account than the one you subscribed on. The email address that received your original receipt is the account tied to billing.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad

If Apple is your billing source:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap your name at the top.
  • Tap Subscriptions.
  • Tap the Mutual entry.
  • Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

After the cancellation goes through, the subscription will show an expiration date rather than a renewal date. If it already displays an expiration notice in red, it was canceled previously and you don’t need to do anything more. Apple emails a confirmation—save it. If a charge appears after your cancellation date, that email is your evidence when you dispute it.

Cancel on Android

Through the Google Play Store app:

  • Open the Google Play Store app.
  • Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  • Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  • Select Mutual and tap Cancel subscription.

Google asks you to choose a reason and then confirm once more. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period, and no further renewal will be charged.

Cancel From a Web Browser

You don’t need the original phone. Both Apple and Google support cancellation from any browser, which helps if you’ve switched devices or platforms.

For Apple, sign in at account.apple.com with your Apple ID and follow the prompts to your subscriptions. For Google Play, go to play.google.com and open your subscriptions, or use Google’s cancellation tool at support.google.com/googleplay/workflow/9827184.

If you subscribed at mutual.app/premium directly, the subscription won’t appear in either app store. Log in at mutual.app/login and cancel through the Mutual Account Manager. For problems there, the support email is support@mutual.app.

Cancel a PayPal Recurring Payment

If PayPal is your payment method—most common when you subscribed through Mutual’s website—you may also need to cancel the billing agreement inside PayPal.

In the PayPal app, tap Menu, then Subscriptions or Linked Businesses. Find Mutual, tap Account, then Unlink, and confirm. On the PayPal website, go to Settings, click Payments, then Automatic Payments, find Mutual, and cancel the agreement.

What Happens to Premium After You Cancel

Canceling does not cut off Premium features right away. You keep them until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for, and the account then reverts to the free version automatically.

This is where people lose money: deleting the Mutual app from your phone does not cancel the subscription, and deleting your Mutual profile does not cancel it either. Billing is handled by Apple, Google, PayPal, or Mutual’s website, and none of those systems know you’ve removed the app. Cancel at the billing source separately.

Pausing vs. Deleting Your Account

If you might return to Mutual, pausing hides your profile from other users and has no time limit. To pause: tap the profile tab at the bottom right, tap Settings, tap Pause Account, then confirm with Pause My Account.

Pausing does not stop Premium billing. Neither does deleting the account. Deletion is permanent and wipes your profile data, but the external subscription keeps renewing. Cancel the subscription first through the billing platform, then pause or delete the profile if you want to.

How to Get a Refund If You Were Charged Anyway

If a charge went through after you canceled or you renewed by accident, request the refund from the platform that took the money.

For Apple, sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, click “I’d like to,” choose “Request a refund,” pick a reason, and select the Mutual charge. Most reviews take about 48 hours. Approval isn’t guaranteed, but accidental renewals and post-cancellation charges are among the stronger grounds.

For Google Play, open the Play app or play.google.com, find the Mutual transaction, and follow the refund prompts. Unauthorized charges can be reported within 120 days.

For billing issues Apple or Google can’t fix, contact Mutual through the app: tap Account, then Help and FAQ, then Ask, and select Email. On desktop, use the chat bubble at support.mutual.app. Replies typically come within 24 hours on weekdays, and live chat runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountain time.
