To cancel a LastPass subscription and delete your account, you need to do two separate things in order: first cancel auto-renewal so you stop being billed, then export your vault, and only then delete the account itself. Doing it in the other order is the most common mistake. LastPass warns that if you delete your account without canceling the subscription first, you’ll have to contact support to stop future charges.1LastPass. How Do I Delete My LastPass Account
Step 1: Cancel Auto-Renewal
For LastPass Premium or Families bought directly from LastPass, log in to your vault at lastpass.com or through the browser extension, then:
- Open Account Settings from the left navigation menu.
- On the General tab, find Account Information and select My Account.
- Click Cancel Auto-Renewal.
Your subscription stays active through the end of the billing period you already paid for, and LastPass does not refund unused time.2LastPass. How Do I Get a Refund After Canceling My LastPass Subscription When the period ends, the account downgrades to LastPass Free rather than disappearing.3LastPass. LastPass Premium FAQs
If You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
Canceling inside LastPass won’t stop charges that run through the App Store or Google Play. You have to cancel in the store where you bought the subscription.4LastPass. How Do I Cancel the Renewal of My LastPass Premium Subscription
- On iOS, go to Settings, tap your name, open Subscriptions, find LastPass, and cancel.
- On Android, open the Google Play Store app and go to Settings, then Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Pick LastPass and cancel. You can also reach this from within the LastPass app under Settings, Account, Manage Subscription.
- On a Mac using Safari, cancel through App Store subscription management on the Mac.
This step gets missed a lot. People delete the LastPass account, assume the money side is handled, and then see Apple or Google charges keep arriving.
Step 2: Export Your Vault
Once the account is deleted, everything inside is gone. Export your vault before you go any further, and know that you can only export if you still know your master password.1LastPass. How Do I Delete My LastPass Account
The export tool is in the vault’s advanced options. You can save as a CSV file, which gives you a plain-text spreadsheet of site URLs, usernames, passwords, and notes. LastPass also offers an encrypted format if you’d rather keep the data protected during transfer into another password manager.5LastPass. How Do I Export Vault Data From LastPass
The export won’t carry a few things with it. File attachments on vault entries have to be downloaded one by one. TOTP codes generated inside the vault are not included. Custom item types and custom fields aren’t supported either. If you enter the wrong master password, LastPass blocks the download entirely. On a Business or Teams account, an administrator may have disabled vault exports as a policy, so you’ll need to coordinate with your admin first.5LastPass. How Do I Export Vault Data From LastPass
Store the exported file somewhere secure. A CSV holds every password in readable text, so treat it with the same care as the master password itself. Import it into your new password manager, verify everything is there, then delete the file.
Step 3: Delete the Account
With auto-renewal canceled and your vault exported, go to lastpass.com/delete_account.php. The page states plainly that clicking Delete begins a permanent, irreversible removal of your account, including all sites, secure notes, and form fills.6LastPass. Delete Your Account
You can delete the account even if you’ve forgotten your master password.1LastPass. How Do I Delete My LastPass Account In that case the process uses email verification instead: LastPass sends a code to the email on the account, and completing that verification authorizes deletion without vault access.7LastPass. Identity Verification If you only forgot the master password and don’t actually want to lose everything, LastPass suggests trying account recovery first.
LastPass gives you a review step before the deletion becomes final. Use it. There’s no undo on the other side.
What Happens After the Account Is Deleted
Deletion is permanent. Stored sites, secure notes, and form fills are destroyed.6LastPass. Delete Your Account Shared folders stop being accessible to the people you shared them with, and emergency access permissions you granted to trusted contacts are revoked.
Account information may be retained on LastPass servers for up to 90 days after deletion, then permanently purged.8LastPass. Do You Retain Any Information on Former Users of LastPass Customer support cannot restore a deleted account or recover vault contents, so anything you didn’t export is gone.
If You’re on a Families Plan
Your role in the family group changes how to handle this. A regular member can be removed by the family manager, which converts their account to LastPass Free. Their own passwords and vault items stay intact, but shared folders between family members become regular folders and the sharing links are severed.9LastPass. Remove a Member From a LastPass Families Subscription
Emergency contacts set up during the Families plan aren’t affected, though as a Free user you can’t add new ones. The family owner cannot be removed without first transferring ownership to another member, so if you’re the owner and want to leave, hand ownership off before anything else.9LastPass. If It’s a Business or Teams Account
Business and Teams accounts work differently because an administrator controls the environment. If you’re an employee, your admin handles the termination, and the admin chooses whether to disable the account, remove it, delete it outright, delete it after transferring the vault to another user, or just reset the master password.10LastPass. About Terminating User Accounts Deleting a business account does not affect any linked personal account, which is why personal passwords belong in a personal vault, not the company one.
Consider Downgrading Instead
Not everyone who wants to stop paying actually needs to delete the account. Canceling Premium or Families without deleting drops you to LastPass Free when the billing period ends.3LastPass. LastPass Premium FAQs You keep the vault and every saved password, but you lose Premium features and have to choose between using LastPass on computers or on mobile devices, not both.
For anyone switching to a different password manager, Free buys time. Stay on Free, export at your own pace, confirm the new manager imported everything correctly, and only then come back to delete LastPass. Going straight from a paid subscription to account deletion is where people lose data they meant to keep.
