How to Cancel a Grok (xAI) Subscription and Stop Auto-Renewal

To cancel a Grok xAI subscription, turn off auto-renewal at the place that actually bills you: x.com if you subscribed to X Premium through a browser, grok.com if you pay for SuperGrok directly, or the Apple App Store or Google Play if you signed up inside the X app on a phone or tablet. Picking the wrong path is the single most common reason a cancellation doesn’t stick.

Find Out Who Is Actually Charging You

Pull up a recent bank or credit card statement before you click anything. The name on the charge tells you where to cancel:

  • A charge from X or X Premium means you subscribed on x.com in a browser, and xAI’s parent bills you directly.
  • A charge from Apple means you subscribed through the X app on an iPhone or iPad.
  • A charge from Google means you subscribed through the X app on an Android device.
  • A separate charge tied to SuperGrok means you signed up at grok.com, which runs on xAI’s own billing system independent of X Premium.

Canceling inside the X app does nothing if Apple or Google is actually processing the payment. The reverse is also true. Confirm the biller first, then go to that biller’s cancellation screen.

Cancel X Premium on the Web

Log in at x.com in a browser. Click More in the left sidebar, then Settings and Support, then Settings and privacy, then Subscriptions. Your current plan appears with a Cancel Subscription option. Click it and work through the confirmation prompts.

X may offer a retention discount or a downgrade to a cheaper tier before it finishes the cancellation. Decline both if you want charges to stop entirely. Watch for an on-screen confirmation that auto-renewal is off. No confirmation usually means the cancellation didn’t go through.

Cancel SuperGrok on Grok.com

SuperGrok bought directly from xAI is managed at grok.com, not through X. Sign in, open Settings, and select Billing to manage the subscription.1xAI. FAQ – Grok Website / Apps From there you can turn off auto-renewal or change your payment method.

SuperGrok and X Premium are two separate subscriptions. Canceling one does not touch the other. If you pay for both, cancel each one on its own.

Cancel Through Apple

On an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple Find X in the list, tap it, tap Cancel Subscription, and confirm.

If there’s no cancel button and an expiration date shows in red, the subscription is already canceled.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple If X doesn’t appear at all, you’re probably signed into a different Apple ID than the one you used to subscribe, or the subscription was set up on the web rather than through the App Store.

Cancel Through Google Play

Open the Google Play app on Android, tap your profile icon in the top right, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.3Google Play. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Tap the X or Grok entry, tap Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.

If the subscription is missing from the list, tap the arrow next to your profile icon to check you’re in the right Google account. Clearing the Google Play Services cache under device Settings, Apps, Google Play Services can also help. Still nothing? The subscription almost certainly runs through a different billing source.

What Happens After You Cancel

Canceling stops future charges. It does not cut off access right away. You keep full Grok and Premium features through the end of the billing period you already paid for.4X Help Center. X Premium FAQ On an annual plan, that runs through the annual renewal date, not just the current month.

After that period ends, the account drops to free-tier status. Grok still offers limited free access, so it doesn’t disappear entirely, but usage limits are much lower than on a paid plan.

Deactivating Your Account Is Not Cancellation

Deleting or deactivating your X account does not stop recurring subscription charges. X’s policy states subscriptions are non-refundable, including subscriptions tied to accounts you can no longer access.4X Help Center. X Premium FAQ

Cancel the subscription first, then deactivate if you still want to leave. If you’re already locked out or suspended, try logging in through a browser to reach the billing page anyway. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel there instead, because those companies handle payment independently of your X account status.

Refunds

X’s stated policy is that subscriptions are non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise.4X Help Center. X Premium FAQ Canceling on day two or day twenty-eight of a billing cycle produces the same outcome: access through the end of the period you paid for, no prorated credit.

Apple and Google run their own refund processes and are sometimes more flexible. Apple takes requests at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Google Play has a similar form. Approval isn’t guaranteed, but it’s worth trying if a renewal charge hit right before you attempted to cancel, or if the charge looks unauthorized.

When You Can’t Find the Cancel Button

Almost every “the cancel option isn’t there” problem traces back to looking in the wrong place. The X app on a phone will not show subscription management for a plan you bought on the web; go to x.com in a browser. A subscription bought through the App Store will not have a cancel option on x.com, because Apple, not X, controls that billing.

If you’ve confirmed the right biller and the option still won’t load, try a different browser or clear your cache. Some subscription pages don’t render properly in every browser. X also runs a support form at help.x.com/en/forms/premium-support for billing issues, though responses have been reported as slow. Disputing the charge with your card issuer is a final option, but it can get your X account flagged or suspended, so treat it as a last resort rather than a cancellation method.
