To cancel a Google subscription, sign into the Google account that originally purchased it and end it through the Google Play app on Android, the Google Play website on a computer, or your iPhone’s Settings if you signed up through Apple. Cancellation stops the next charge but leaves your access running until the current billing period ends. The step people miss is the account: if you use one Google account for work and another for personal, the subscription only appears under the one that bought it.
Cancel From the Google Play App on Android
Open the Google Play app, tap your profile icon, and go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Pick the one you want to end, tap Cancel subscription, and confirm.

After you confirm, auto-renewal stops. You won’t be billed on the next renewal date, and you keep access through the period you already paid for. Cancel From the Google Play Website
Go to play.google.com and sign in with the account that owns the subscription. Open your account’s subscriptions page, find the one you want to end, click Manage, and follow the prompts to cancel.2Google Pay Help. Manage Recurring Payments and Subscriptions
The result matches the app: future charges stop, current-period access continues. Google sends a confirmation email, so check your inbox to make sure it went through.
If You Signed Up Through Apple
This is where people get stuck. If you subscribed to a Google service like YouTube Premium or Google One through the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, Apple bills you, not Google, and the subscription won’t appear in Google Play at all. Cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings under your Apple account’s subscription management page.3Google One Help. When the Cancel Button Is Missing
Two things usually explain a missing cancel option. You may be signed into the wrong Google account; the subscription only shows up under the account that bought it. If you’ve confirmed the right account and still can’t cancel, go directly to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Google also offers an automated cancellation tool through its support site.
Pausing Instead of Canceling
If you only need a break, some Play subscriptions let you pause for a week to three months, depending on what the developer allows. The pause starts at the end of your current billing period, so you still use the rest of what you already paid for.1Google Play Help. Canceling Google One Affects Your Storage
Losing YouTube Premium means seeing ads again. Canceling Google One is more serious because your files are involved.
Every Google account includes 15 GB of free storage shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. If you’ve been on a paid Google One plan and your stored data exceeds 15 GB when the cancellation takes effect, several things break immediately:
- Gmail can’t send or receive messages, and emails sent to you bounce back to the sender.
- Google Drive won’t accept new uploads or syncs, and others can’t edit or copy your existing files.
- Google Photos backups stop entirely.
You can still download files and delete items to get back under the limit. If you stay over the limit for two years or longer, Google may delete your content.5Google Account Help. Refunds After Canceling

If the service is broken or you were charged by mistake, request a refund through the Google Play help center. Eligibility depends on the purchase type, elapsed time, and whether the product works as described. Prepaid plans generally aren’t eligible for partial refunds. If a refund is denied, Google doesn’t offer a formal appeal through its self-service tool, and resubmitting the same request won’t change the answer. You can contact the app developer directly, since developers can issue refunds under their own policies regardless of Google’s decision; their contact information is on the app’s Play Store listing.7Google Help. Either way, cancel first so more charges don’t pile up.
Remove the Backup Payment Method
Google Play lets you set a backup payment method that runs automatically if your primary card is declined. That’s useful when you want a subscription to keep going, but it can defeat the point of canceling if you’re worried about lingering charges hitting another card. The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule requires businesses selling subscriptions to make canceling as easy as signing up. Sellers must provide a simple cancellation mechanism that immediately stops future charges, clearly disclose subscription terms before collecting billing information, and get informed consent before charging.9Federal Trade Commission.
