How to Cancel a Google Play Subscription on Any Device

To cancel a Google Play subscription, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, pick the one you want to end, and tap Cancel subscription. The charge lives in your Google account, not in the app, so deleting the app does nothing. If you use more than one Google account, sign in to the one that bought the subscription before you start.

Cancel on an Android Phone or Tablet

Open the Google Play Store app. Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner, then tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. You’ll see every active and expired subscription tied to that account.

Tap the one you want to end, then tap Cancel subscription. Google asks you to pick a reason. Any answer works. Confirm, and the cancellation is done.

Cancel From a Web Browser

Go to play.google.com and sign in with the Google account that holds the subscription. Click your profile icon, select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find the service, click Manage, and follow the prompts.

The browser route is useful when you no longer have the Android device you originally subscribed on. It works from any computer, Chromebook, or iPhone, since you’re reaching your Google account through the browser.

What Happens After You Cancel

Canceling does not cut you off right away. You keep the subscription’s features through the end of the billing period you already paid for. On a monthly plan, that’s the rest of the month. On an annual plan, it’s the rest of the year.1Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

Google Play Pass

If you cancel Play Pass, the apps you installed through it stay on your device along with their data. You lose the benefits: paid apps will ask you to buy them individually, in-app purchases unlocked through Play Pass are removed (though you can buy them separately), and ads come back in apps where Play Pass had removed them. Rejoining Play Pass later unlocks that content again.1Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

Google One Storage

Canceling a Google One plan drops you back to the free 15 GB shared across Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. If your data exceeds 15 GB, you won’t be able to send or receive email, upload new files, or back up photos until you delete enough data or resubscribe.2Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies

Google won’t delete your files immediately, but there’s a hard limit. If you stay over your storage quota for two or more years, Google may delete all of your content across Drive, Gmail, and Photos.2Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies Before you cancel, download anything you need or trim your storage below 15 GB.

Pause Instead of Cancel

Some subscriptions let you pause billing rather than end it. When the option exists, it shows up on the same screen as Cancel. Pause lengths run from one week to three months depending on the app.1Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

While paused, you aren’t charged and you don’t have access. Billing resumes automatically at the regular rate when the pause ends. To restart earlier, open the subscription and tap Resume.1Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Not every app offers pausing. If you don’t see it, your choices are keep or cancel.

When the Subscription Isn’t in Your List

A charge keeps hitting your card but nothing appears under Subscriptions. A few things usually explain it.3Google Play Help. Fix Problems With Subscriptions

  • You’re signed into the wrong Google account. Search your inboxes for the subscription confirmation email to find which address was used.
  • Someone in your family group bought it under their own account. You can’t cancel it from yours.
  • A declined payment may have already canceled the subscription automatically. Check your Google Wallet.
  • The app bills outside Google Play. If the line on your bank statement doesn’t say Google, cancel through the app’s own website or support channel.

Getting a Refund for the Last Charge

Canceling doesn’t refund the charge you just paid. Those are separate requests, and timing decides who handles them.

For a purchase made within the last 48 hours, you can request a refund from Google through the Google Play Help page. Google says to allow one to four business days for a decision.4Google Play Help. Request a Refund on Google Play

After 48 hours, Google generally sends you to the app developer, who handles refunds under its own policies, so outcomes vary. For charges you didn’t authorize, you have up to 120 days to report the transaction, regardless of the 48-hour window.5Google Play Help. Learn About Google Play Refund Policies
