To cancel a Bitly subscription, log in to your account, open Settings, go to Billing and usage, and click “Downgrade to free.” The whole thing takes about two minutes. You keep your paid features until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, and your short links keep working after that on the free plan. Two things to know up front: Bitly does not issue refunds, and if you originally subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you have to cancel through that store instead.

If you manage more than one organization under a single login, check that you’re inside the right organization before you open billing settings. Each organization carries its own subscription, so canceling one leaves the others untouched.
Cancel if You Subscribed Through Apple or Google
Bitly’s website can’t cancel a subscription it doesn’t bill. If your payment goes to Apple or Google, cancel there.
iPhone or iPad
Open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Bitly and tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no cancel button and you see an expiration date in red, the subscription is already canceled.2Apple Support. If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple
Android
Open the Google Play app, go to your subscriptions, select Bitly, and tap Cancel subscription. Confirm on the next screen. Important: deleting the Bitly app does not stop the billing. You have to cancel inside Google Play, or the charges will keep arriving.3Google Play Help. Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play
Enterprise Contracts Are Different
If you’re on a custom Enterprise contract, the “Downgrade to free” button doesn’t apply to you. Contact your Bitly account manager to cancel or change the plan, and read your agreement first because it may contain notice periods or contract minimums that standard plans don’t have.1Bitly Support. No Refunds, So Watch Your Renewal Date
Bitly’s terms state that all fees and subscription charges are non-refundable. Canceling the same day you sign up won’t trigger a refund either.4Bitly Support. Can I get a refund if I cancel my Bitly account There are no credits for early termination or unused time on a plan.5Bitly. Terms of Service
That makes the renewal date the thing to track. If your plan renews on the 15th and you cancel on the 16th, you’ve paid for another full cycle with no way to recover it. Set a calendar reminder a few days before renewal if you’re considering canceling.
What Happens After You Cancel
Nothing shuts off right away. You keep every paid feature through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, then your account drops to the free plan. On an annual plan, the downgrade waits for the end of the yearly term.7Bitly Support. How do I change my Bitly subscription
Your existing short links stay active and keep redirecting. Bitly does not break your links when you downgrade. The free plan does come with real limits:
The analytics loss catches most people off guard. Paid plans show city-level and device-level data for each link; on the free plan, that tracking disappears for short links entirely.
Export Your Analytics Before the Paid Period Ends
Analytics export is a paid feature, so do this while your subscription is still live. Click Analytics in the left sidebar, select View all, open the dashboard you want, then click the download icon on each data module and choose CSV. For top-performing links, you can download the top 200 or request a full report by email.6Bitly Support. How do I export data from an Analytics dashboard If you need data broken out by individual link rather than in aggregate, use the Links page export. Once you’re on the free plan, these tools are gone.
Canceling Is Not the Same as Deleting
Canceling your subscription moves you to the free plan but keeps your account, your links, and your link history intact. Deleting your account removes everything from Bitly’s system, and the deletion can take up to 30 days to complete.8Bitly Support. How do I delete my Bitly account
If you delete, every short link you’ve ever made stops redirecting. Anyone clicking one hits a dead end, including links embedded in old emails, social posts, and other sites. For most people, canceling and keeping the free account is the safer move because your links keep working. Only delete if you genuinely want to erase your presence and you’ve accepted that those links will break everywhere you used them.
If you do want to delete, Bitly requires you to downgrade first. Go to Billing and usage, downgrade to free, then open the Profile tab, scroll to the bottom, and click Delete Account.8Bitly Support. How do I delete my Bitly account
