Why Cash App Asks for This
Cash App operates under the same federal anti-money-laundering framework that governs banks. The Bank Secrecy Act requires financial institutions to keep records and report activity that could indicate money laundering or other crimes.4FinCEN. The Bank Secrecy Act Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT Act builds on that by requiring minimum identity verification standards whenever a customer opens an account.5FinCEN. Fees When You Send
Sending from your linked bank account, debit card, or Cash App balance is free. Sending from a credit card triggers a 3% fee. That surcharge makes credit-card-funded transfers noticeably expensive at scale: sending $1,000 from a credit card costs $30 you wouldn’t owe by funding the transfer any other way. There’s rarely a reason to send this way unless a credit card is your only funding source.
What the Sending Limit Doesn’t Cover
The $1,000 and $40,000 numbers apply to person-to-person sending inside Cash App. Other things you can do with the app run on separate limit systems, so hitting one won’t necessarily block the others, and staying under the sending cap won’t automatically keep you clear elsewhere.
