Depop charges US sellers a payment processing fee of 3.3% plus $0.45 per sale and no longer takes a selling commission, while US buyers pay a marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1, on top of shipping and sales tax. So how much Depop charges depends entirely on which side of the transaction you’re on, and whether you opt into extras like boosted listings or prepaid shipping labels.
What Sellers Pay in the US
Since July 15, 2024, Depop has not charged US-based sellers a selling fee.1Depop. If you’re based outside the US and UK, that 10% fee on the item price (and on shipping, if you arrange it yourself) still applies.2Depop. Seller Fees and Charges
The one fee every US seller still pays is the payment processing charge: 3.3% plus $0.45 per transaction, calculated on the item price, shipping, and any applicable tax combined.2Depop. Seller Fees and Charges On a $30 sale with $5 shipping, that works out to roughly $1.60. It covers fraud screening and the mechanics of moving money from the buyer’s card to your bank account, and it’s deducted automatically before your proceeds land in your balance.
Boosted Listings
If you turn on Boosted Listings to push your items higher in search results, Depop charges a 12% boosting fee on the sale price (excluding tax) when a boosted item sells.3Depop. Boosted Listings Policy If you arranged your own shipping instead of using a Depop label, the 12% also applies to the shipping charge. A boosted $40 item costs you $4.80 in boosting fees on top of payment processing, so the math works best on higher-priced items that have been sitting unsold.
What Buyers Pay
Depop added a marketplace fee for US buyers to offset the end of seller commissions. It runs up to 5% of the item price plus a fixed amount of up to $1, calculated before shipping and taxes.1Depop. Depop Removes Selling Fees in the United States, Evolves Fee Structure On a $50 item, that’s up to $3.50 added at checkout. If your Depop charge looks higher than the sticker price, the marketplace fee is the usual explanation after shipping and sales tax.
Sales tax is added automatically on most US purchases. Depop acts as a marketplace facilitator, meaning it calculates, collects, and remits state sales tax based on your delivery address.4Depop. State Sales Tax in the US The tax applies to the item price plus shipping.
Shipping Label Costs
When sellers use Depop’s prepaid USPS labels, the price scales with weight. Labels start at around $4.45 for packages under four ounces, run roughly $10.25 for items in the one-to-two-pound range, and reach about $17.75 for packages up to ten pounds.5Depop. How to Ship – US Who absorbs that cost depends on the listing: if the seller offers free shipping, the label price comes out of their proceeds; otherwise the buyer pays it as a separate shipping line at checkout.
Sellers can also arrange shipping through any outside carrier, set a flat shipping price on the listing, and enter tracking manually.6Depop. Managing Shipping Going outside Depop’s labels does cost you something indirect though: it voids Depop Protection coverage for US and UK sellers if the package is lost or damaged.7Depop. How and When Fees Come Out of Your Payout
Seller fees are deducted before your money reaches your available balance. When a sale completes, Depop subtracts the payment processing fee, the boosting fee if the listing was boosted, and the label cost if you used Depop Shipping, then deposits what remains.2Depop. Seller Fees and Charges Each deduction is listed separately in your transaction history, so you can see exactly what came off a given sale.
Tax Reporting at Higher Volumes
If your Depop sales clear $20,000 in gross payments and 200 transactions in a calendar year, Stripe will issue a Form 1099-K reporting the income to the IRS.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6050W – Returns Relating to Payments Made in Settlement of Payment Card and Third Party Network Transactions The One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed in 2025 locked in those thresholds, replacing the lower $600 figure that had been scheduled under prior law.9Internal Revenue Service. One, Big, Beautiful Bill Provisions Some states set lower reporting thresholds, so you may receive a 1099-K below the federal numbers.
As you approach those thresholds, Depop will prompt you to verify your name, address, and Social Security Number or EIN through Stripe.10Depop. Receiving Your 1099-K From Stripe Payouts can be blocked until you complete that step. If a form is issued, you’ll find it in Stripe Express by January 31 of the following year.
