Paper filings go to one of the USCIS lockbox facilities. Premium Processing Does Not Change This
Paying for premium processing through Form I-907 does not speed up the receipt notice. How to Confirm Your Filing While You Wait
You don’t have to sit blind for a month. There are three reliable signals that your filing was accepted and a notice is coming.
Watch your payment. If you paid by check or money order, keep an eye on your bank account. When USCIS cashes the check, the lockbox has almost certainly accepted the filing. If you paid by credit card through Form G-1450, watch for the charge on your statement. Applicants who pay through Pay.gov receive a confirmation email that includes an IOE-prefixed receipt number, so save that email.
Use the Case Status Online tool. Once you have a receipt number from any source, enter it at the USCIS Case Status Online tool. Keep USCIS Updated on Your Address

Changing your address with the U.S. Postal Service does not change it with USCIS, and USPS generally will not forward USCIS mail.8U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Federal law requires most noncitizens to report an address change to USCIS within 10 days of moving.9Office of the Law Revision Counsel. When you update online, enter the receipt number for each pending application so the change applies to those cases. What If Nothing Arrives
Some filings never produce a receipt because they were rejected rather than accepted. In fiscal year 2025, USCIS lockbox facilities rejected 11 percent of the more than 10 million applications they processed, most often for the wrong fee, a missing signature, or an outdated form edition.11U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. A rejection is not the same as a denial: you can correct the problem and refile.
If weeks go by with no receipt notice and no returned package, the filing was likely accepted and the notice is delayed or lost. Here is a practical timeline for escalating:
- First 30 days. Check your mail carefully, including anything that looks like junk. The I-797C arrives in a plain envelope. Confirm your payment cleared and your address is current with USCIS.
- After 30 days. Run the Case Status Online tool. If it shows a notice was issued but you never received it, the problem is delivery, not processing.
- After 60 days. File an e-Request for non-delivery of a notice at egov.uscis.gov/e-request/ndn. USCIS asks that you wait at least 60 days from filing before submitting this inquiry. - Still nothing. Once you’ve given USCIS at least 60 days to resolve the problem without success, you can ask the DHS CIS Ombudsman for help by submitting DHS Form 7001. If your filing was time-sensitive, hold onto every scrap of proof: the USPS or courier mailing receipt, the check image or credit card record, and any G-1145 email or text. Those records can help establish your filing date if the receipt notice arrives late or not at all.
Why the Notice Matters Enough to Chase
