How Do I Pay My SBA Loan? MySBA Portal, Phone, and Payoff

To pay your SBA loan, log in to the MySBA Loan Portal at sba.gov and submit a one-time or recurring payment using a bank account, debit card, or PayPal. Phone payment is available for disaster loans. As of October 1, 2025, the SBA no longer accepts checks or money orders in the mail.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA One catch before you do anything else: not every SBA loan is paid to the SBA. If a private lender still services your loan, your payment goes to that lender.

First, Figure Out Who You Actually Pay

An SBA guarantee is not the same as SBA servicing. You pay through the MySBA Loan Portal only if your loan falls into one of these categories:

  • SBA disaster loans, including COVID-19 EIDL and physical-loss loans.
  • 7(a) loans that the SBA has purchased from the lender.
  • PPP loans that the SBA has purchased under the guaranty.
  • 504 loans where the SBA has purchased the debenture.

If your 7(a) loan is active and still with the original lender, you pay the lender. Some lenders accept those payments through Pay.gov.2U.S. Small Business Administration. 7(a) Loans If your 504 loan is active and performing, payments run through a Central Servicing Agent under the master servicing agreement among you, your Certified Development Company, and the SBA; your CDC should give you specific instructions at closing.3eCFR. 13 CFR 120.954 – Central Servicing Agent When in doubt, contact the lender listed on your billing statement.4U.S. Small Business Administration. What to Have Ready

Pull together a few things before you log in or dial:

  • Your 10-digit SBA loan number. It is on your original promissory note and on billing statements from the agency, and it is not the same as any internal number your lender uses.
  • The Taxpayer Identification Number tied to the loan: your business EIN, or your Social Security Number if you applied as a sole proprietor.
  • Your bank’s nine-digit routing number and your account number, or a debit card. PayPal works for one-time payments only.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA

Paying Through the MySBA Loan Portal

The portal lives on sba.gov and is the central hub for managing an SBA-serviced loan. To register, you provide an email address, set up multi-factor authentication, and then enter your 10-digit loan number and TIN so the system can match you to your loan in federal records.4U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA Account Login and Registration Portals Once your loan appears on the dashboard, you will see your current balance and due date.

From the dashboard, pick the loan and choose how you want to pay:

  • One-time payment. Enter the amount and pay with a bank account, debit card, or PayPal. Useful for extra payments or catching up.
  • Recurring payment. Set a fixed amount to be withdrawn automatically on a schedule. Bank account or debit card only; PayPal is not supported for recurring.

Review the transaction summary, select Confirm Payment, and save the confirmation number the portal generates.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA Recurring payments are the easiest way to avoid an accidental late month, and you can cancel or change the schedule anytime.

Paying by Phone

Phone payment is available for disaster loans. Have your loan number and the payment amount ready before you call.

  • COVID-19 EIDL: 833-853-5638 (TTY: 711), Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Email: CESC@sba.gov.
  • Other disaster loans: SBA Disaster Assistance Customer Service Center, 800-659-2955. Email: disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

The automated system walks you through your banking information and the payment amount, then gives you a verbal confirmation code.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA

Mail Is No Longer an Option

Checks and money orders are out. As of October 1, 2025, the SBA stopped accepting mailed payments under a presidential executive order requiring federal agencies to go electronic. Any check mailed after that date will be returned without being applied to your balance.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA If you used to pay by mail, switch to the portal or phone before you miss a payment.

Paying the Loan Off Early

Do not just send whatever balance shows on your dashboard. Interest accrues daily, so the real payoff figure depends on the exact date the funds arrive. For COVID-19 EIDL, request a payoff amount by sending a message through the MySBA Loan Portal or calling 833-853-5638.1U.S. Small Business Administration. Make a Payment to SBA For other loan types, use the customer service number on your billing statement. The payoff letter will state an exact amount good through a specific date, usually valid for 10 to 30 days. Miss that window and you owe the additional interest that has accrued since.

Most SBA disaster loans, including COVID-19 EIDL, carry no prepayment penalty. Two situations are different:

  • 7(a) loans with a maturity of 15 years or more. If you prepay more than 25 percent of the highest outstanding principal balance within the first three years, the SBA charges a subsidy recoupment fee: 5 percent of the prepaid amount in year one, 3 percent in year two, 1 percent in year three. No fee applies after year three. Below the 25 percent threshold, no fee.5eCFR. 13 CFR 120.223 – Subsidy Recoupment Fee Payable to SBA by Borrower
  • 504 loans. These typically carry a prepayment penalty that starts around 3 percent in year one and declines annually to zero. The exact percentage depends on your debenture rate, so check with your CDC before making a large early payment.

If You Cannot Make a Payment

Ask for help before you fall far behind. Most SBA hardship programs have a 90-day-past-due cutoff, and once a federal debt hits 120 days overdue, the Treasury Offset Program can start intercepting your tax refunds and other federal payments.6Bureau of the Fiscal Service. Treasury Offset Program – How TOP Works

COVID-19 EIDL Hardship Accommodation

The SBA will cut your COVID-19 EIDL monthly payment in half for six months if you request a Hardship Accommodation through the MySBA Loan Portal. Your loan must be less than 90 days past due, and you need to submit a written explanation of your temporary difficulty. Charged-off loans do not qualify. Interest keeps accruing on the full balance during the reduced-payment period, and the unpaid portion is added to a balloon payment at the end of your 30-year term. You can use the program once every five years.7U.S. Small Business Administration. Manage Your EIDL

7(a) Deferment

Deferment requests for 7(a) loans go to your lender, not the SBA. The lender can approve one deferral of up to three consecutive months without permission from the registered holder. Interest is not waived and continues to accrue. You resume your regular schedule when the deferral ends.8SBA FTA Wiki. Guide to SBA 7(a) Secondary Market Loan Sales

Other Disaster Loans

If you hold a non-COVID disaster loan and cannot make timely payments for reasons substantially beyond your control, you can request a suspension of payments or an extension of the loan’s maturity.
