To get Form 1095-A online, log in to your HealthCare.gov account (or your state Marketplace account), open the application for the tax year you need, click the “Tax Forms” tab, and download the PDF. The Marketplace must make the form available by January 31, and the digital copy usually posts to your account a couple of weeks before the paper copy arrives in the mail.1Internal Revenue Service. Download It From HealthCare.gov
Go to HealthCare.gov and sign in with the username and password you created when you enrolled. If you have forgotten them, run through account recovery before tax season gets busy; the call center gets slower every week from February onward.
Once you are on your dashboard, the steps are short:
- Select the application for the tax year you need. Applications are listed by year, so a 2025 form lives inside the 2025 application, not the current one.
- Open the “Tax Forms” tab within that application.
- Click the link for Form 1095-A. It downloads as a PDF.
Save the file somewhere you can find again. The IRS generally has three years from your filing date to assess additional tax, so keeping a copy that long is a reasonable habit.3Internal Revenue Service. Time IRS Can Assess Tax If you use tax software, you can upload the PDF or type in the figures from the form’s three columns: your enrollment premium, the benchmark Silver plan premium, and the advance credit payments made on your behalf.
If You Enrolled Through a State Exchange
HealthCare.gov will not have your form if you enrolled through a state-run exchange. Calling the federal Marketplace in that situation is a dead end because the federal system does not hold your records. You need to log in on your state exchange’s website instead.
For plan year 2026, these states and the District of Columbia run their own exchanges: California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.4CMS. State-based Exchanges Arkansas and Oregon also run state exchanges but use the federal platform, so their enrollees should check with the state exchange directly. If you are not sure which one you used, look at the welcome email or letter from when you first enrolled.
If You Cannot Log In
When online access is not working, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).5HealthCare.gov. Contact Us The line runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except holidays. A representative will verify your identity with security questions and then arrange to mail a paper copy to the address on file.
Before you call, check that the mailing address on your account is current. If you have moved, the representative can update it during the call so the form does not go to your old address. A paper copy typically takes about ten to fifteen business days to arrive. Wait times climb sharply in February and March, so calling early in the morning or later in the evening tends to move faster.
If the Form Never Arrives
If January 31 has passed and nothing is in your online account or your mailbox, contact the Marketplace that issued your coverage. HealthCare.gov enrollees should log in first, then call the number above. State exchange enrollees should call their state’s call center.6Internal Revenue Service. Do not file your return without this form if you received advance premium tax credits. The IRS is direct on this point: filing without an attached Form 8962 can delay your refund and may affect your eligibility for future advance credit payments.7Internal Revenue Service. Affordable Care Act – What to Expect When Filing Your Tax Return Unlike Forms 1095-B and 1095-C, there is no IRS guidance letting you file with your own records in place of a missing 1095-A. If the April deadline is closing in and the form still has not shown up, a filing extension buys time without penalty.
Check the Form Before You File
Open the PDF as soon as you download it and look at three things.
The label at the top. A form marked “CORRECTED” replaces an earlier version; use the corrected numbers, and if you already filed, compare them to what you reported and consider amending on Form 1040-X. A form marked “VOID” should not be used at all; if you already filed based on the original, you should amend to remove the credit you claimed.8Internal Revenue Service. Column B. This column lists the monthly premium for the Second Lowest Cost Silver Plan in your area, and it is the benchmark the IRS uses to figure your premium tax credit.9HealthCare.gov. Locating Form 1095-A and Determining the Second-lowest-cost Silver Plan (SLCSP) Premium Common reasons Column B looks off include moving during the year or adding or dropping a household member.
The coverage months and people listed. If the covered dates are wrong, a premium amount is off, or someone is listed who should not be, call the Marketplace that issued the form. HealthCare.gov enrollees call 1-800-318-2596; state exchange enrollees call the state directly. Once the error is confirmed, the Marketplace will issue a corrected version. Wait for it before filing. Using the wrong figures throws off your tax credit calculation and usually means amending the return later.
Getting more than one Form 1095-A is normal and not a sign of an error. Household members enrolled in different plans, a mid-year plan switch, and coverage through two different state exchanges each generate a separate form.12Internal Revenue Service.
