Google Cylinder Charge: What It Is, Cancel, or Dispute

A “GOOGLE*Cylinder” line on your bank or credit card statement is a payment Google processed for an app or service called Cylinder that was purchased or subscribed to through the Google Play Store. Google Play charges show up in the format “GOOGLE*App name” or “GOOGLE*App developer name,” so a Google Cylinder charge almost always traces back to an app or developer named Cylinder on Google’s platform.1Google Play Help. What the Charge Is Most Likely For

The most likely source is Cylinder Health, a digital health app from Cylinder Health, Inc. Its Play Store listing includes “Digital Purchases” as a feature, meaning it can bill through Google Play.3Google Play. Cylinder Health App The company markets the app as free through participating employers and insurance plans, but its terms of use note that users may still face out-of-pocket costs such as copayments and deductibles. Cylinder Health also reserves the right to offer “Direct Access” to people outside employer-sponsored plans, in which case the user pays fees directly.4Cylinder Health. Terms of Use

A second, much smaller app simply called “Cylinder,” published by the Swiss company SDATAWAY SA, is a Bluetooth utility for configuring a luxury watch winder. It has a small user base and no listed in-app purchases, so it’s an unlikely source of a surprise charge.5Google Play. Cylinder App by SDATAWAY SA

If neither one is familiar, the charge may come from a purchase someone else made using your Google account or card, or from a fraudulent transaction. Scammers have used stolen card details to run purchases through Google Play, sometimes starting with small test charges before trying larger amounts.6WRTV. Check Your Google Account First

Before disputing anything, confirm what the charge actually is by looking at your Google transaction records. Two places cover almost everything:

  • Google Play order history. In the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Budget & history. On a computer, go to play.google.com and follow the same path. This covers apps, in-app purchases, and subscriptions bought through Google Play.7Google Play Help. View Your Google Play Order History
  • Google Payments center. Go to payments.google.com and open “Activity” for individual orders or “Subscriptions & services” for recurring ones. This covers Google services beyond the Play Store, including Google Ads, Google Store hardware, and Google Workspace.7Google Play Help. View Your Google Play Order History

If you use more than one Google account, check each. Also think about anyone else who might use your device or share your payment method. Google says charges from family members on a shared card are one of the most common reasons a transaction looks unfamiliar at first glance.8Google Payments Center Help. Canceling a Cylinder Subscription

If the charge is a recurring subscription you want to stop, you have to cancel it through your Google account. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.9Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

  • Open play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
  • Select the Cylinder subscription.
  • Tap “Cancel subscription” and follow the prompts.

You’ll keep access through the end of the current billing period. If you’re paying in installments, canceling stops future auto-renewal but doesn’t reverse installments that have already been billed.9Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

Disputing an Unauthorized Charge

If you didn’t authorize the charge and can’t find it in any of your Google accounts, you have two routes: a claim through Google, or a dispute through your bank or card issuer.

Through Google

Google accepts unauthorized-transaction reports for purchases made within the past four months.10Google Payments. Report an Unauthorized Purchase To file:

  • Open the form at payments.google.com/payments/unauthorizedtransactions.
  • Enter your payment method (card number, bank account, or PayPal email), the transaction date and amount, and why you believe it wasn’t authorized.
  • Submit a separate claim for each affected payment method.

Expect an email update in about seven business days. You can check status any time on the unauthorized transactions status page using the claim ID in your confirmation email.1Google Play Help. Find and Report Unrecognized Google Play Charges

Through Your Bank or Card Issuer

If the charge doesn’t appear in your Google account at all, Google itself recommends going straight to your payment provider’s fraud department.8Google Payments Center Help. Fix an Unauthorized Transaction For a credit card, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau advises calling the card company right away and following up with a written billing-error notice within 60 days of the statement date. Once the issuer receives your written dispute, it has 30 days to acknowledge it and must either remove the charge or send a written explanation of why it stands.11Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Debit card protections and timelines vary by bank. In reported cases of fraudulent Google charges, banks have reversed the transactions after the customer canceled the compromised card and filed a formal dispute.6WRTV. Check Your Bank Statements for Bogus Google Charges

Securing Your Account After a Fraudulent Charge

A truly unauthorized charge can mean someone has access to your Google account or your card. Google recommends changing your account password immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.8Google Payments Center Help.
