Future US LLC Charge: How to Cancel, Dispute, and Get a Refund

A Future US LLC charge on your credit card is almost always a recurring magazine subscription payment. Future US LLC is the American arm of Future plc, a British media company that publishes more than 200 titles including PC Gamer, Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Kiplinger, The Week, Guitar World, and Homes & Gardens.1Future plc. Our Brands If you don’t remember signing up for anything, the charge usually traces back to a subscription you started months or years ago, a free trial that converted to paid, or a plan that quietly auto-renewed.

Why the Charge Shows Up Unexpectedly

Future’s subscription terms state that all plans “automatically renew until canceled.”2Future plc. Terms and Conditions (US) So a magazine you signed up for a long time ago keeps billing on its own cycle. Digital free trials, often 30 days, convert to paid at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.3Future plc. The same charge may appear on your statement under a slightly different descriptor like “Magazines Direct” or “MagazinesDirect.” That’s Future’s subscription fulfillment platform for most of its print and web-based magazine orders.5Magazines Direct. Terms and Conditions

How to Cancel the Subscription

Where you cancel depends on where you originally subscribed.

If You Subscribed Through Apple

App Store subscriptions have to be canceled through Apple, not through Future. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your Apple ID, tap Subscriptions, find the Future title, and turn off auto-renewal.3Future plc. App Support

If You Subscribed Through Magazines Direct

This covers most print and web subscription purchases. You have three ways to cancel:

  • Online: log in at mymagazine.co.uk and use “Pause or cancel subscription” in your account details.6Magazines Direct. FAQ

Magazines Direct also lets you pause a subscription for up to three months instead of ending it.6Magazines Direct. FAQ Digital access ends when the subscription does.

One timing point worth knowing: Future’s terms state that payments and fees are “final and non-refundable, unless otherwise stated.”2Future plc. Terms and Conditions (US) Canceling stops future charges but doesn’t automatically get your most recent payment back.

Disputing the Charge With Your Card Issuer

If Future or Magazines Direct won’t help, or if you believe the charge is genuinely unauthorized, you can dispute it with your card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you have 60 days from the statement date on which the charge appeared to file a written billing error notice with your card company.7CFPB. Credit Cards – Dispute a Charge Most issuers accept disputes online or by phone, but a written notice sent by certified mail is the surest way to preserve the FCBA protections. If someone else used your card, that’s outright fraud rather than a billing error, and the 60-day deadline doesn’t apply the same way.

What to Expect From Future’s Customer Service

Future’s main contact page lists email addresses for advertising, licensing, and accounts payable, but not a dedicated subscriber support line, so subscription issues route through Magazines Direct.9Future plc. Your Protections Under Auto-Renewal Law

Recurring subscriptions like Future’s are covered by the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA), enacted in 2010. ROSCA requires online sellers to clearly disclose material terms before taking billing information, get the consumer’s express informed consent before charging, and provide a simple way to stop recurring charges.10FTC. Negative Option Rule

The FTC finalized a “Click-to-Cancel” rule in 2024 to tighten these requirements, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit vacated it on procedural grounds in 2025. As of early 2026 the FTC has opened a new rulemaking to revive a version of the rule, and in the meantime it continues to enforce ROSCA and Section 5 of the FTC Act.10FTC. Negative Option Rule About 30 states also have their own automatic-renewal laws that often match or go beyond the federal rules, which can give you additional leverage if a cancellation request is ignored.
