Eric Gillespie Arrested: Charges, Bond, and Govini Fallout

Eric Gillespie, the founder and then-executive chairman of defense analytics firm Govini, was arrested on November 7, 2025, in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, on four felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor following an undercover sting by the state Attorney General’s Office.¹ He was 57. Govini’s board fired him five days later, and the Pentagon opened a review of his ties to the company, which holds roughly a billion dollars in defense contract vehicles.

The Charges and the Sting

The charges were filed by the Child Predator Section of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office under 18 Pa.C.S. § 6318, docketed as MJ-52304-CR-0000194-2025.¹

According to the criminal complaint, an undercover agent posed as an adult on an online chat platform that prosecutors described as frequently used by offenders trying to arrange meetings with children.²¹

Gillespie’s attorney, David Shrager, has disputed the charges. He characterized the exchanges as an “online fantasy chat” between adults, said the accusations involve the use of artificial intelligence, and stated that Gillespie “has never contacted a minor” and that “the facts clearly prove that.”¹

Bail and Possible Penalties

At his initial arraignment, a magisterial district judge denied bail, citing flight risk and public safety concerns.² Gillespie was released on November 20, 2025, after posting a $1 million bond. His passport was revoked and he was barred from traveling as a condition of release. His next court date was set for December 18, 2025.¹

Under Pennsylvania law, unlawful contact with a minor is graded as a felony of the same degree as the most serious underlying offense, or a third-degree felony, whichever is greater.³ If convicted, Gillespie faces a minimum of seven years in prison, fines of up to $15,000, and a requirement to register as a sex offender for at least ten years, according to the Attorney General’s Office.²

Govini Fires Its Founder

On November 12, 2025, five days after the arrest, Govini’s Board of Directors terminated Gillespie and removed him from the board, effective immediately.⁴ He had been serving as executive chairman; he stepped down as CEO nearly a decade earlier.⁵

In a public statement, Govini called Gillespie a “depraved individual” and said his actions “should not in any way diminish the hard work of the broader team and their commitment to the security of the United States of America.”⁴ The company said Gillespie had no access to classified information and that although he had been “consulted on the operations of the leadership team” as chairman, he no longer had any affiliation with the firm and would not receive a paycheck. Govini also disclosed that Gillespie was not a majority shareholder but declined to specify the size of his remaining equity stake.⁶

Pentagon Review and Contract Exposure

The Department of Defense opened a review after the arrest. A senior Pentagon official said the department was “looking into Gillespie’s arrest and possible security issues” and that officials “take these allegations very seriously.”⁶¹

Govini’s federal footprint is what makes that review consequential. In April 2025, the company was awarded a 10-year, $919 million Supply Chain Risk Illumination contract vehicle through the General Services Administration on behalf of the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. That vehicle gives the DoD and national security agencies access to Govini’s Ark platform to screen vendors for financial risk and adversarial influence across the defense industrial base.⁷ Govini was also selected as the lead logistics software provider for the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command and Control program, a $99.6 million prototype effort led by Anduril Industries with partners including Palantir and Microsoft.⁸ In fiscal year 2025, the company held 26 federal contracts worth about $52 million, most with the Department of Defense.²

What Happens Next

Gillespie is due back in court on December 18, 2025.¹ The Pentagon’s review of possible security issues tied to his role at Govini remains open, and neither Bain Capital, which announced a $150 million investment in the company in October 2025, nor Govini’s other institutional investors have publicly commented on the charges.⁹
