Prosecutor Anthony Nardozzi told the court that “while the overall effect of the defendant’s conduct was significant, the defendant’s actual role was a minimal one. The defendant acted primarily in support of her husband.” Prosecutors cited her immediate acceptance of responsibility, voluntary surrender, and lack of criminal history in asking for the reduction below the guidelines.18ABC 7. Media reports suggested she had cooperated with U.S. authorities, which Lichtman publicly criticized on the grounds that it could put her at risk in Mexico. There is no confirmed formal cooperation agreement in the public record, and prosecutors attributed the reduced sentence to her minimal role, quick plea, and clean prior history rather than to any cooperation deal.19BBC News.
