eBay Europe Sarl Charge: PayPal Billing Agreements and How to Stop It

A charge labeled “eBay Europe S.à r.l.” on your bank, card, or PayPal statement is a payment processed by eBay’s Luxembourg payments company, which handles transactions for European eBay sites. It usually reflects one of four things: seller fees, an eBay Store subscription, a purchase you made on a European eBay site, or an automatic debit under an old PayPal billing agreement. If none of those fit, treat it as possible unauthorized use of your account.

What the Entity Is

eBay Europe S.à r.l. (often written “eBay Sarl”) is a Luxembourg-registered company authorized as a payment institution and supervised by Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier. It is the payment processor for sales on European eBay sites, including ebay.de, ebay.fr, ebay.it, ebay.es, and ebay.co.uk, and the payout entity for sellers in the EEA and Switzerland.1eBay. Why the Charge Is There

A few categories account for most eBay Sarl charges.

  • A regulatory operating fee of 0.35% on sales from listings on UK, Austrian, Belgian, French, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Polish, Spanish, and Swiss eBay sites, in place since April 2024.4eBay. International Fees

  • A buyer purchase on a European eBay site. The processor’s name appears on the statement, not the seller’s.

The Forgotten PayPal Billing Agreement

If the charge hits your PayPal account rather than a card, and you haven’t sold on eBay in a long time, an old billing agreement is a common culprit. Many users authorized PayPal to let eBay Europe S.à r.l. debit their PayPal balance automatically for seller fees. To end it, log in to PayPal, open Settings, then Payments, then Automatic Payments, and select eBay. Cancellations received before the close of a business day take effect the next business day. eBay may temporarily suspend an account it suspects has been breached, as a protective measure.

How to Verify What You Were Charged

If you sell on eBay and want the exact breakdown behind a charge, download the invoice from Seller Hub. In the Payments tab, open Reports, then find Financial Documents and choose Tax Invoices.
