Dylan Hustosky is a Gates Mills, Ohio police officer who survived being shot twice by his wife, Kayleigh Hustosky, at their Painesville home on August 13, 2018. The Shooting on Cedarbrook Drive

Around 4:14 p.m. on August 13, 2018, Hustosky, then 27, called 911 from his home in the 100 block of Cedarbrook Drive in Painesville. “My wife just shot me through the door,” he told the dispatcher.2News 5 Cleveland. Hustosky fled the house and was found near the driveway of Heritage Middle School across the street. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.2News 5 Cleveland. The Standoff and Kayleigh Hustosky’s Death

Kayleigh Hustosky refused to communicate with officers or leave the home. Painesville police called in the Lake County SWAT team to clear the residence. Around 7 p.m., officers found her dead in an upstairs bedroom. A preliminary autopsy determined she had died from a single gunshot wound consistent with suicide.2News 5 Cleveland. What Investigators Found

Painesville Police Chief Dan Waterman said authorities had no record of prior domestic violence calls at the home. The only previous call was a criminal damaging complaint unrelated to domestic issues.2News 5 Cleveland. Recovery and Return to Duty

He had joined the Gates Mills Police Department in 2014 as a patrol officer. After the shooting, Chief Gregg Minichello called him an “outstanding employee” and said, “I wish I had ten of him.”2News 5 Cleveland.
