On statements, Digital River charges show up under descriptors like DR*Kaspersky Lab, DR*Kaspersky BD, or DR*EFMSPL, and their order numbers run 11 or 12 digits. Kaspersky uses other e-commerce partners too, including Nexway and AI Marche, so not every Kaspersky charge routes through Digital River; the billing descriptor or order confirmation email tells you which one handled yours.1Kaspersky. How to Cancel and Request a Refund
Cancel on Kaspersky’s side first. For newer products (Kaspersky Standard, Plus, or Premium), sign in at my.kaspersky.com, open the Subscription page, click Manage Subscription, and choose Cancel Subscription. Also Cancel the PayPal Automatic Payment
If the money came out through PayPal, cancel the automatic payment agreement inside PayPal as a separate step. In PayPal, go to Settings, then Payments, then Subscriptions and Saved Businesses (or Automatic Payments), locate the Digital River or Kaspersky entry, and cancel it.4PayPal. Disputing the Charge With Your Card Issuer
When self-service cancellation and the refund request don’t resolve things, you can dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you have 60 days from the date the bill was sent to dispute an unauthorized charge in writing. The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days, and you can withhold payment on the disputed amount during the investigation without being reported as delinquent. Why Cancellations Sometimes Don’t Stick
Complaints about DRI*Kaspersky charges follow a recognizable shape. Users say they were billed year after year for subscriptions they had canceled, sometimes years earlier. One consumer on the Kaspersky forum described an $86.39 annual charge through PayPal that kept hitting for three years after a 2020 cancellation. In several of these reports, the “My Kaspersky” account page shows no active paid subscription at all while Digital River continues to bill.5Kaspersky Community Forum. Getting a live human to sort it out has been hard. Users describe being bounced between Kaspersky support and Digital River, with each pointing to the other. At the Better Business Bureau, Digital River’s usual response to Kaspersky-related complaints has been to tell consumers to contact Kaspersky. The company is not BBB accredited and has logged 66 complaints over the past three years, roughly a third about billing and a third about products; only six of those complaints are marked resolved.7Better Business Bureau. The situation is worse now because Digital River has largely shut down. The company stopped paying many of its software vendors through its MyCommerce platform starting in mid-2024.8Michael Tsai. Digital River Not Paying Developers By January 2025, it had laid off its remaining 122 employees and suspended services to most global customers, and its German subsidiaries filed for insolvency in Cologne on January 28, 2025.9Digital Commerce 360. Work the Kaspersky cancellation, kill the payment authorization at PayPal or your card, and go to your card issuer if the charges continue.
If You’re in the US: The UltraAV Complication
A charge that looks like it’s from Kaspersky may actually be for UltraAV. On June 20, 2024, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security prohibited Kaspersky from selling software or providing cybersecurity services to US persons; new US sales ended July 20, 2024, and updates and security network operations for existing US customers stopped on September 29, 2024.10Bureau of Industry and Security. Rather than cut US customers off, Kaspersky arranged to migrate them to UltraAV, an antivirus product owned by Pango. On September 19, 2024, an update removed Kaspersky software and installed UltraAV in its place. Users reported that this happened without clear advance notice or explicit permission, and some said they could not uninstall UltraAV afterward.12PCMag. Billing followed the software. Some users who had turned off Kaspersky auto-renewal found themselves enrolled in and charged for a UltraAV subscription.14Kaspersky Community Forum.
