Regular mail does not run on Sunday. USPS holds First-Class letters, postcards, magazines, marketing mail, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Media Mail until the next delivery day. Two things still arrive on Sundays: Priority Mail Express shipments the sender paid extra to have delivered that day, and packages moving under USPS partnerships with high-volume shippers like Amazon in eligible areas.
The Two Sunday Exceptions
Priority Mail Express is the fastest USPS service, with one-to-three-day delivery and a money-back guarantee. Standard delivery is guaranteed by 6 PM, and Sunday and holiday delivery is available at extra cost in many major markets.1USPS. Amazon packages are the other exception. USPS entered a negotiated service agreement with Amazon in 2013 to deliver parcels on Sundays, and the program has expanded since.4United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Sunday Parcel Delivery Service Amazon customers pay no extra delivery charge for Sunday service, but availability depends on your area and is more common in metropolitan zones with high volume.
What Waits Until Monday
Everything outside those two categories sits until the next business day. If you mail something on Friday or Saturday, USPS excludes Sundays and holidays from the delivery-time calculation entirely.5USPS. Post Offices, Kiosks, and PO Boxes on Sunday
Retail counters are closed on Sundays. You can’t buy stamps from a clerk, mail a package over the counter, or use most in-person services.
Many post office lobbies stay unlocked and house self-service kiosks. These let you buy stamps, weigh packages, print and pay for shipping labels, look up ZIP Codes, and renew a PO Box.6USPS. PO Box holders can usually access their box on Sundays, since many PO Box lobbies allow entry around the clock, seven days a week.7USPS. PO Boxes Hours vary by facility, so check yours before making a trip. No new mail will be sorted into your box on Sunday, but Saturday’s delivery will still be there.
Blue collection boxes and post office drop boxes are not picked up on Sundays. Anything you deposit stays in the box until the next scheduled pickup, usually Monday morning. Postal officials recommend against leaving mail in outdoor collection boxes over the weekend because items sitting for extended periods are more vulnerable to theft. Tracking and Informed Delivery on Sunday

Federal Holidays Work the Same Way
USPS treats federal holidays like Sundays: no regular mail delivery. Priority Mail Express with the holiday delivery add-on is the main exception. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, USPS may observe the preceding Friday; when it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is typically the observed closure day.10USPS. If You Actually Need Sunday Delivery
When USPS doesn’t fit, private carriers handle Sundays differently. FedEx Home Delivery includes Sunday residential delivery at no extra charge, with packages arriving by 8 PM in most areas.11FedEx.
