Delbert Carver is a 23-year-old arrested in August 2025 and charged with three misdemeanors after throwing a green sex toy onto the court during a WNBA game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia. His arrest was the first in what became a wave of similar disruptions at women’s basketball games across the country, though investigators later linked most of the copycat incidents to a cryptocurrency group that denied any involvement with him.
What Happened at the Valkyries–Dream Game
The incident took place late in the fourth quarter on July 29, 2025, at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia. A green sex toy was thrown from the stands and landed near the top of the free-throw line. Officials let play continue while a law enforcement officer used a towel to remove the object.1USA Today. Carver was not caught at the arena. According to a police affidavit, he later told officers he had acted with friends and that “this was supposed to be a joke and this joke [was] supposed to go viral.”2ESPN. WNBA Fan Accused of Throwing Sex Toy Faces Multiple Charges

How Carver Fits Into the Copycat Wave
Carver’s throw on July 29 turned out to be the first of at least six similar incidents at WNBA games over the following two weeks, in cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Brooklyn, and Seattle.4Washington Post. WNBA Sex Toys, Crypto Meme Coin Timeline
Reporting by ESPN, the Washington Post, and Reuters tied many of those later incidents to an anonymous online community promoting a meme coin called “Green Dildo Coin,” which began trading on July 28, 2025, one day before Carver’s throw. A spokesperson for the group, using the handle “Lt. Daldo Raine,” told ESPN it had coordinated later stunts through a Telegram channel, and identified 18-year-old Kaden Lopez, arrested at an August 5 Phoenix Mercury game, as one of its participants. The spokesperson explicitly denied any affiliation with Carver, suggesting he acted on his own.4Washington Post. WNBA Sex Toys, Crypto Meme Coin Timeline5ESPN. His stated motive, wanting a joke to go viral, was simpler and more personal than the marketing campaign that followed. Whether he inspired the crypto group’s scheme or whether the timing was coincidental is not clear from available reporting.
The consequences also grew more serious as the incidents continued. Carver faces three misdemeanor counts in Clayton County. Charles Burgess, 32, of Dayton, Ohio, arrested on August 20 after a sex toy struck a 12-year-old girl in the leg at a New York Liberty game, was charged with 10 counts including attempted assault, a felony. Burgess pleaded not guilty and was due back in court in December 2025.6The Athletic (New York Times). WNBA Sex Toy Thrower Arrested in New York
WNBA Position on Fans Who Throw Objects
On August 2, 2025, the same day Carver was booked, the WNBA said any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court would be “immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”5ESPN.
