Reviews of Cordoba Legal Group are sharply split. The Boca Raton debt settlement firm holds a 5.0 TrustScore on Trustpilot across more than 34,000 reviews and an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, yet the same BBB profile lists 278 formal complaints in three years and a federal consumer lawsuit was filed against the firm in 2025. If you are trying to decide whether Cordoba Legal Group is a safe place to enroll unsecured debt, the honest answer is that praise and grievance both show up in volume, and the grievances cluster around specific, predictable issues.
The Ratings Look Great, the Complaint File Doesn’t
On the positive side, Trustpilot shows a perfect 5.0 out of 5.0 across more than 34,000 verified reviews, and the BBB shows a 4.83 out of 5 customer review score from nearly 3,000 reviews. The firm has been BBB-accredited since January 2022 and carries an A+ rating.1USA Inquirer. Cordoba Legal Reviews Ratings2BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC Positive reviewers commonly cite responsive service, regular case updates, and a non-judgmental tone from staff.
The BBB also lists 278 complaints closed over the past three years, with 97 in the past 12 months. Of those 278, only 70 were marked resolved to the consumer’s satisfaction. The remaining 208 are categorized as “answered,” meaning the firm responded but the consumer either rejected the response or never confirmed the matter was fixed.3BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints That is a meaningful gap between the star ratings and the formal-complaint outcomes.
What Clients Complain About Most
The 278 BBB complaints break down into 89 service issues, 88 billing issues, 44 product problems, 36 order issues, 11 customer service, and 10 sales and advertising.3BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints Several themes recur across the filings.
Confusion about what the service actually is. Many complainants believed Cordoba Legal Group would consolidate their debts or make monthly payments to creditors on their behalf. The firm regularly clarifies in its responses that it negotiates lump-sum settlements and is not a debt consolidation or bill-paying service.3BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints
Credit damage and continued collection activity. Because clients are typically told to stop paying creditors directly, credit scores drop and creditors can still pursue collection, including lawsuits, while a client is enrolled. The firm discloses this during a recorded welcome call.4BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints One consumer cited in FTC materials on debt relief reported a credit score drop from 800 to 500 after enrolling in a program, with a two-year recovery.5FTC. Communication after enrollment. Clients describe trouble reaching representatives after signing up, problems with the online client portal, and reliance on automated text systems that they say do not resolve substantive questions.6BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints
Refund disputes at cancellation. Clients who try to cancel commonly disagree with the firm about how much money is owed back. Some received partial refunds while the firm maintained no further balance was owed. In some cases, funds were characterized as “forfeited” based on the signed retainer agreement.6BBB. To its credit, the firm responds to essentially every negative review and BBB complaint, usually within days. Its standard position is that all terms, fees, and risks are disclosed in the retainer agreement and during the recorded compliance call, and that dissatisfied clients can contact management for a resolution.1USA Inquirer. How Fees Come Out of Your Monthly Payment
The firm calls its fees “performance-based,” meaning they are earned once a settlement is reached on a specific debt. Fee components include earned fees on each settled debt, custodial fees for managing the trust account, and check disbursement fees.6BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints1USA Inquirer. Where complaints line up is on the split between what goes to the trust account and what goes to fees. One reported example showed that of a $415 monthly payment, only $160 was going toward the client’s debt, with the rest going to legal and administrative fees.1USA Inquirer. Cordoba Legal Reviews Ratings In another BBB complaint, a client reported depositing $15,244.35 into the program with $6,611.36 retained as fees. Clients also report being asked for extra funds on top of their monthly payment to finalize a specific settlement.4BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints

The 2025 Palmer Lawsuit
In February 2025, Dawyn S. Palmer sued Cordoba Legal Group in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Represented by the Sulaiman Law Group, Palmer alleged that the firm misrepresented that its services would improve credit scores and reduce debt, instructed her to stop paying creditors (which led to defaults), charged substantial monthly fees without performing promised services or communicating with creditors, and tried to induce customers to waive legal protections. The complaint raised claims under the federal Credit Repair Organizations Act, the Florida Credit Services Organizations Act, and the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, plus a breach of fiduciary duty claim. She sought actual and punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and an injunction.7Get Out of Debt. Consumer Sues Cordoba Legal Group for Credit Repair Fraud
The case never reached the merits. Cordoba Legal Group moved to compel arbitration or, alternatively, to dismiss on March 20, 2025. About a month later, Palmer filed a notice of voluntary dismissal, and Judge Aileen M. Cannon closed the case on April 24, 2025. The dismissal was without prejudice, meaning it could be refiled.8PACER Monitor. Palmer v. Cordoba Legal Group, LLC Because the case ended before discovery or any ruling, the allegations remain unproven.
Canceling the Program
Cordoba Legal Group’s contract, as described in available reporting, includes a cancellation clause allowing clients to exit at any time without penalty. Cancellation requires written notice to the firm and stopping payments into the trust account.1USA Inquirer. Cordoba Legal Reviews Ratings In BBB responses, the firm has treated formal complaints as cancellation requests and said accounts would be closed immediately on receipt.6BBB. Cordoba Legal Group PLLC – Complaints
Actual cancellations have produced friction. Clients report delays in receiving refunds, and disputes over the refund amount are common in the BBB record.1USA Inquirer. Cordoba Legal Reviews Ratings The firm has also stated in some responses that it does not always have a record of cancellation requests sent by email before a consumer escalates to a BBB complaint.6BBB. What Regulators Have Done
The FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule prohibits for-profit debt relief companies from collecting fees before they successfully settle at least one of a client’s debts, and FTC guidance states there is no general exemption from this rule for attorneys. The exceptions that exist, such as purely intrastate telemarketing or sales completed only after a face-to-face meeting, apply to any provider.9FTC. Debt Relief Services and the Telemarketing Sales Rule: A Guide for Business
Cordoba Legal Group’s fees are described as performance-based, which would align with the advance-fee ban. The firm also charges custodial and disbursement fees, and clients have reported those charges being concentrated in the early months before any settlements are reached. Whether that structure complies with the TSR depends on specific timing details the available record does not resolve.
No FTC or Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcement action against Cordoba Legal Group appeared in the research, and no state attorney general investigation was identified. Beyond the individual Palmer case, no class action was identified either.7Get Out of Debt. If you are weighing the firm, read the retainer agreement carefully before signing, ask how much of your first six months of payments will actually reach the trust account, and confirm in writing what happens to your funds if you cancel before any debt is settled.
