CBI*PC/MacKeeper Charge: Why It Recurs, How to Cancel and Refund

A charge reading “CBI*PC/MACKEEPER” on your credit or debit card statement is a payment collected by Cleverbridge, the online reseller that handles billing for MacKeeper, a Mac utility and security app now owned by Clario Tech. The “CBI” prefix identifies Cleverbridge as the merchant of record; the name after the asterisk identifies the product. Because Cleverbridge, not MacKeeper, appears on the statement, the line item often looks unfamiliar even to people who knowingly installed the software, and it commonly shows up when an annual or monthly subscription renews automatically.1Cleverbridge. Why the Charge Keeps Coming Back

MacKeeper subscriptions renew automatically by default. Unless you turn off auto-renewal before the next billing date, a new charge posts at the end of each billing cycle, whether that cycle is monthly, semi-annual, or annual.2MacKeeper. End User License Agreement

One point trips up a lot of people: removing MacKeeper from your Mac does not end the subscription. Deleting the app has no effect on billing. The subscription itself has to be canceled through your account.2MacKeeper. End User License Agreement

How to Cancel the Subscription

To stop future charges, turn off auto-renewal in your MacKeeper account:3MacKeeper. How to Cancel MacKeeper Subscription

  • Log in to your MacKeeper account.
  • Click “Manage subscription” on your license card.
  • Select “Turn off your auto-renewal protection,” choose a reason, and confirm.

Your access continues through the end of the current paid period, but no new charge will post after that. If you would rather not cancel online, MacKeeper’s billing team can be reached at billing@mackeeper.com, by phone at 1-800-787-8041 in the United States (separate numbers cover Australia and the United Kingdom), or through live chat on the MacKeeper website. How to Get a Refund

From MacKeeper

MacKeeper’s money-back guarantee depends on the plan. Annual and semi-annual subscriptions can be refunded in full within 30 days of the original purchase. Monthly plans have a 14-day window. Any license used for more than six months is not refundable.5MacKeeper. Refund Policy

You can submit a request through MacKeeper’s online refund form or by emailing billing@mackeeper.com. Approved refunds take 5 to 15 business days to process, and once the refund goes through, the associated license is voided.5MacKeeper. Refund Policy

From Cleverbridge

Because Cleverbridge is the billing merchant, you can also request a refund directly at cleverbridge.com/refund. You’ll need the email address used at purchase, the order reference number, and a reason. If it’s approved, Cleverbridge emails a confirmation with a link to finalize the refund. Eligibility still follows MacKeeper’s refund terms, and processing the refund deactivates the license and cannot be reversed.6Cleverbridge. From Your Bank or Card Issuer

If the merchant refund is denied or the charge was genuinely unauthorized, you can dispute it with your card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your written dispute must reach the credit card issuer within 60 days of the first statement showing the charge. The issuer has 30 days to acknowledge the dispute and 90 days to resolve it. During the investigation you may withhold payment on the disputed amount, and the issuer cannot report it as delinquent or send it to collections.8Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges

For a debit card, the timeline is different. Your bank generally has 10 business days to investigate an unauthorized transaction. If it needs more time, it has to issue a temporary credit for the disputed amount minus up to $50 while the investigation continues.9Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. If You Don’t Remember Buying MacKeeper

A CBI charge you can’t place doesn’t automatically mean fraud. Cleverbridge handles billing for many software brands, and the descriptor on your statement uses the product name after the asterisk. To identify the specific purchase behind a CBI-prefixed charge, use Cleverbridge’s Purchase Lookup tool at cleverbridge.com/?scope=cusecolp. Search by email address to pull up associated orders, license keys, and invoices. If the first email doesn’t return anything, try alternates and check spam or junk folders for the original confirmation.1Cleverbridge. What Is This Charge From Cleverbridge on My Credit/Debit Card

If you need to contact Cleverbridge support to track down a charge, have the exact amount, the date it posted, and the last four digits of the card on file. That’s what the support team uses to locate transactions.1Cleverbridge. What Is This Charge From Cleverbridge on My Credit/Debit Card

If the lookup confirms a MacKeeper subscription you no longer want, cancel auto-renewal first so the charge doesn’t repeat, then decide whether the purchase falls inside the refund window.
