Canary Software Charge: What It Is and How to Cancel

A Canary charge on your credit card is a recurring subscription fee for Canary’s cloud-based home security camera service, billed by Canary Connect, Inc.1Canary. Learn More About Us and Our Mission If someone in your household set up a Canary camera and agreed to Premium Service during setup, that enrollment triggers automatic monthly or annual billing until you cancel it. The hardware is not what you’re paying for. The charge is for the software and cloud video service tied to the camera.

How the Charge Shows Up

On bank and credit card statements, the line item usually reads “CANARY,” “CANARY NEW YORK NY,” or “CANARY” followed by a string of numbers. The format depends on your bank. Before doing anything else, check whether anyone in your household owns a Canary camera, started a trial, or signed in during setup using a shared email. Billing happens entirely online, so there’s no separate charge for a device.

If no one you live with has ever used a Canary product and you never created an account, treat the charge as potentially unauthorized and go straight to the dispute section below.

Matching the Dollar Amount

Canary’s paid tier, called Premium Service, runs $19.99 per month for your first camera and $6.99 per month for each additional camera at the same address. Annual billing is $199 per year for the first device and $69.99 per year for additional cameras.2Canary Help Center. Premium Service FAQ

If your statement shows roughly $19.99 or $6.99, that’s a standard monthly charge. A charge near $199 or $69.99 is an annual renewal. Larger amounts generally indicate multiple cameras or an annual plan with add-on devices.

How to Cancel

Where you cancel depends on where the subscription started. If you’re not sure, search your email for the original confirmation from Canary, Apple, or Google.

If You Signed Up on Canary’s Website

Log in at my.canary.is using the email address you used when the camera was first set up, select your location, click “Manage Service Plan,” then click “Cancel Premium Service.”3Canary Help Center. How Do I Cancel Premium Service4Canary Help Center. Account Creation FAQ

If You Signed Up on an iPhone or iPad

Apple handles the billing. Open Settings, tap your name, tap “Subscriptions,” select Canary, and cancel from there. Cancelling inside the Canary app alone will not stop the billing. The cancellation has to go through Apple’s subscription settings.3Canary Help Center. How Do I Cancel Premium Service

If You Signed Up on an Android Device

Open the Google Play Store, go to your subscriptions, select Canary, and tap “Cancel subscription.”5Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Same logic as Apple: the cancellation must happen in Google’s billing system, not just in the Canary app.

If Those Routes Don’t Work

Canary support is reachable by in-app or web chat, by email at premium@canary.is, or by phone at +1 (201) 742-8482.3Canary Help Center. How Do I Cancel Premium Service

What Happens to the Camera After You Cancel

Cancelling does not disable the camera. The account drops to the free Basic plan, which still provides live viewing in 30-second sessions, motion push notifications with preview images, two-way audio, and night vision.6Canary. Premium Service The device warranty reverts to the standard one year.

The main thing you give up is recorded video history. Premium stores 60 days of cloud footage; Basic has no multi-day recording. So if the camera is actively protecting a property, factor that in before you cancel.

Can You Get a Refund?

Canary’s refund policy covers only brand-new subscriptions, not renewals. A monthly plan can be refunded in full if you cancel within three days of the initial purchase. An annual plan has a 14-day window from the initial purchase.7Canary. Equipment Returns, Refunds and Limited Warranty After those windows close, the charge stands for the rest of that billing period. Renewals are not refund-eligible under the written policy at all.

If an annual plan auto-renewed and you’d forgotten about it, the policy itself doesn’t entitle you to money back. Contacting support and asking for a courtesy credit is the practical next step. Some representatives have discretion to issue one, but it isn’t guaranteed.

If You Never Signed Up for Canary

When the charge is genuinely unauthorized, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a stronger tool than Canary’s own refund policy. You can dispute a billing error with your credit card issuer in writing within 60 days of the statement date that first showed the charge. The dispute must include your name and account number, the amount in question, and why you believe it’s an error. The card issuer then has 30 days to acknowledge the dispute and two billing cycles to investigate.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. United States Code Title 15 – 1666 Correction of Billing Errors

One caution before filing a bank chargeback: companies routinely suspend or permanently close accounts tied to chargebacks. If anyone in your household still uses the Canary camera, even on the free Basic plan, a chargeback could lock you out of the account. Try to resolve the issue with Canary first. Keep the bank dispute in reserve for a charge that is truly unauthorized or a company that won’t respond.

Federal law also requires subscription services billed over the internet to clearly disclose the terms, get your express informed consent before charging, and provide a simple way to stop the charges.9Office of the Law Revision Counsel.
