If your employer uses ADP for payroll and has turned on electronic tax statements, you can get your W-2 from ADP by logging into the self-service portal at signin.adp.com, opening the Tax Statements area, and downloading the form as a PDF. Whether the form actually appears there depends on three things: your employer enabling the feature, your account being registered, and your having consented to electronic delivery.
Check Whether Your Employer Made the W-2 Available Online
Your employer decides whether tax documents appear in ADP. The feature has to be switched on inside the company’s ADP service agreement. If it isn’t, no W-2 will show up in your portal even when you can see pay stubs there.
Electronic delivery only satisfies the employer’s legal duty to furnish a W-2 if you gave affirmative consent to receive it that way rather than by mail.1eCFR. 26 CFR 31.6051-1 – Statements for Employees Consent usually stays in effect until you withdraw it. If you never consented, expect a paper copy.
One boundary worth knowing: if you’re an independent contractor, you get a Form 1099-NEC, not a W-2, and the portal’s W-2 features are built for employees.2ADP. Form W-2 and Form 1099 Guide for Employees
Register or Sign In to the ADP Portal
Go to signin.adp.com or the login page your employer gave you. Most employers use ADP Workforce Now or ADP iPay (formerly iPayStatements), and both route through the same central sign-in.3ADP. Login and Support – ADP Workforce Now
New users need a registration code from their company’s payroll or HR administrator.4ADP. Login and Support – ADP Portal ADP support cannot issue that code, so ask HR directly. During registration you’ll verify your identity, create a username and password, and set security questions. Keep a recent pay statement handy in case you need your company’s exact legal name.
Turn on multi-factor authentication if the option is offered. ADP will never call you asking for a verification code; treat any such call as a scam.5ADP. Security Alert – Account Takeover (ATO)
Download the W-2
Once you’re signed in:
- Open the Pay & Tax section of your dashboard.
- Select the Tax Statements tab, where current and prior-year forms are stored.
- Choose the tax year from the dropdown and select the W-2.
- Complete any additional security check the system prompts.
- Save the PDF. You’ll need a PDF viewer to open, print, or upload it into tax software.
Electronic W-2s in ADP are usually available several days before mailed copies land. The ADP mobile app also lets you view and download the form, though the exact features depend on your employer’s package.6ADP. ADP Mobile Solutions – HR and Payroll Mobile App
Getting an Older W-2 or One After You’ve Left
ADP typically keeps tax documents in the portal on a rolling three-year window. For anything older, ask your former or current employer’s payroll department for a reprint.
Leaving a job often changes portal access. Some employers deactivate accounts soon after departure; others keep access open for up to three years. If you can’t log in, contact the former employer’s HR team. They can reissue a paper W-2 or reopen portal access temporarily. The obligation to furnish your W-2 doesn’t end when your employment does.7Internal Revenue Service. General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2026)
