Yes. A Venmo business profile can send money to your personal Venmo profile using a built-in balance transfer feature that lives inside the app. Both profiles sit under the same login, so the move happens with a tap rather than a payment. Venmo does not charge a fee for this internal transfer, but the business income behind it is still taxable, and seller fees have already come out before the money reaches your business balance.1Venmo. How the Transfer Actually Works
You cannot send yourself a regular payment. You own both profiles, so the standard “Pay or Request” flow will not accept your business profile as a recipient. Venmo provides a separate balance transfer option instead, and it becomes available once your business profile is verified.1Venmo. Business Profiles Account Settings
To move funds, open the app and switch to your business profile using the profile toggle. Go to your account settings or balance area and choose the transfer option. Pick the amount, confirm the direction (business to personal, or personal to business), and complete the move. The money typically shows up in the destination balance right away.
The internal transfer itself is free. Costs only appear when you push money out of Venmo entirely to a linked bank account or debit card.
What You Need Set Up First
The transfer feature only appears once both profiles are active and verified. A Venmo business profile is available to individual sellers, sole proprietors, and registered businesses, and it attaches to your existing personal account rather than creating a second login.2Venmo. Verification requires your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Registered businesses with beneficial owners may need to provide identification for each owner as well.4Venmo. Fees That Shrink the Balance Before You Move It
The number you see in your business balance is already net of seller fees. Every customer payment of $1.00 or more triggers a seller transaction fee of 1.9% plus $0.10, deducted automatically before the funds post to your business balance. Tap to Pay contactless payments run 2.29% plus $0.10.5Venmo. Our Fees
Once the money is inside Venmo, moving it between your own profiles costs nothing. Sending it out to a bank account is where the next fee decision comes in. Standard bank transfers, which usually take one to three business days, are free. Instant transfers to a bank or debit card, which arrive in roughly 30 minutes, cost 1.75% of the amount, with a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25 per transfer.6Venmo. Instant Bank Transfer FAQ
Weekly Limits on a Business Profile
Verified business profiles operate under rolling weekly limits that reset seven days after each transaction rather than on a fixed calendar day. Track cumulative activity across the whole seven-day window.7Venmo. Business Profiles Payment and Bank Transfer Limits
- Payments to other Venmo users: $25,000 per week
- Transfers to a bank account or eligible debit card: $49,999.99 per week total, covering standard and instant combined
- Instant transfer to a debit card: $10,000 per individual transfer
- Instant transfer to a bank account: $50,000 per individual transfer
Unverified users face much lower ceilings, often only a few hundred dollars per week, until identity verification is complete.
Moving Money Internally Does Not Change the Tax Picture
Customer payments to your business profile count as taxable gross income the moment they arrive. Shifting that money to your personal profile afterward does not change its character. The income was earned when the customer paid, not when you moved it.
Venmo is classified as a third-party settlement organization under federal law and must issue Form 1099-K when reporting thresholds are met.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 6050W – Returns Relating to Payments Made in Settlement of Payment Card and Third Party Network Transactions The current federal threshold requires both conditions: gross payments above $20,000 in a calendar year and more than 200 transactions in the same period. This is the pre-2021 threshold, reinstated after the lower $600 threshold from the American Rescue Plan was repealed.9Internal Revenue Service. IRS Issues FAQs on Form 1099-K Threshold Under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill
Falling below the 1099-K threshold does not eliminate your tax obligation. All business income is reportable whether or not Venmo sends you a form. Some states set their own thresholds that may be lower than the federal floor, so a state 1099-K can arrive even if federal reporting does not apply.
Note the Purpose of Each Transfer
Balance transfers between your own profiles carry little payment risk since both belong to you, but they do carry bookkeeping weight. Add a clear note to each one, such as “owner draw” or “business reimbursement,” so the purpose is documented in the app. That gives you a paper trail distinguishing internal moves from customer payments if the IRS ever asks.
Keeping business transactions on the business profile and personal spending on the personal profile makes reconciliation cleaner at tax time. Accepting customer payments on your personal profile, or running personal expenses through the business side, muddies the line between taxable income and non-taxable transfers and makes deductions harder to substantiate. Consistent separation from the start beats sorting it out later.
