A Bitdefender charge on your credit card is almost always a payment for a Bitdefender antivirus subscription, usually an automatic renewal rather than a new purchase. It catches people off guard because it doesn’t appear under the name “Bitdefender” at all. On most statements it reads as “2CO.com*bitdefender.co” or just “2co.com,” which is the descriptor used by Bitdefender’s payment processor, 2Checkout (now part of Verifone).1Bitdefender. Identify Bitdefender Charges on Bank Statements If you want it refunded and the renewals stopped, you have about 30 days to act on the refund and a few minutes of clicking to shut off future billing.
Why the Charge Says 2Checkout Instead of Bitdefender
Bitdefender does not process its own online payments. Purchases made through its website are handled by 2Checkout, an authorized vendor formerly known as Avangate and now operating under the Verifone brand.2Bitdefender. Is It Your Auto-Renewal?
Bitdefender subscriptions are set to renew automatically so protection continues without interruption.3Bitdefender. What makes the surprise worse is the price gap. The first year is heavily discounted; the renewal reverts to the standard rate, which is roughly double. One Better Business Bureau complaint describes a customer who originally paid $22 being renewed at $97.19.5Better Business Bureau. Bitdefender Inc. BBB Complaints To see whether the charge amount matches a Bitdefender product, these are the standard individual-plan prices as of mid-2026:

- Total Security: about $60 the first year, $110 at renewal.
- Premium Security: about $80 the first year, $130 at renewal.

How to Get a Refund
Bitdefender offers a 30-day money-back guarantee that applies to both new purchases and automatic renewals.8Bitdefender. Bitdefender Refund Policy If you’re inside that window, email refunds@bitdefender.com or open a ticket through the official support portal.9Bitdefender. Bitdefender Community Support Forum Bitdefender can only refund orders placed through its own website. If you bought through a retailer such as Best Buy, you need to go through that retailer.
One trap to avoid: if you have already filed a chargeback with your bank, Bitdefender says it cannot issue a direct refund while that dispute is open, because the funds are locked during the investigation. You’d have to close the chargeback and provide proof before Bitdefender will process the refund on its end.9Bitdefender. Bitdefender Community Support Forum Bitdefender also estimates that a chargeback can take three to four months to resolve because the dispute passes through 2Checkout first.8Bitdefender. How to Stop Future Charges
Getting a refund doesn’t automatically turn off auto-renewal. You need to disable it separately, in one of two places depending on where you bought the subscription.
Through Bitdefender Central
For subscriptions bought directly from Bitdefender’s website:
- Log in to Bitdefender Central at central.bitdefender.com.
- Open “My Subscriptions,” then the “My Payments” tab.
- Click “View Details” (or “More Details”) on the subscription.
- Select “Manage your subscription renewal options.”
- Click “Stop Auto-Renewal.”
The button is sometimes labeled “Cancel Subscription and Continuous Protection,” which sounds like it ends your coverage. It doesn’t. It only turns off future billing; your current subscription keeps running until its expiration date. If you bought through a retail partner, the “My Payments” tab won’t appear in Central, because those purchases aren’t enrolled in Bitdefender’s automatic billing system.11Bitdefender Community. Through the 2Checkout Portal
You can also manage billing directly at store.bitdefender.com/myaccount/. Enter the email address used to buy the software, and 2Checkout will send a temporary login link that expires in one hour. Go to “My Products,” find your Bitdefender subscription, and select the option to stop automatic renewal.2Bitdefender. About 2Checkout and Bitdefender Purchases If neither portal cooperates, email cancel@bitdefender.com.3Bitdefender. Bitdefender Subscription Renewal Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store have to be canceled in those app stores’ subscription settings, not through Bitdefender or 2Checkout.
One detail Bitdefender has clarified in BBB responses: auto-renewal is set per subscription, not per account. If you have more than one Bitdefender product, turning it off for one does not turn it off for the others.12Better Business Bureau. Bitdefender Inc. If Bitdefender Won’t Refund You, Dispute With Your Bank
If Bitdefender refuses a refund or the charge is genuinely unauthorized, you can dispute it through your card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, send a written dispute to your card issuer’s billing inquiry address within 60 days of the statement containing the charge. Include your name, account number, and a description of the billing error. Certified mail with return receipt is recommended.13Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges
While the investigation is open, you can withhold payment on the disputed amount, and your issuer cannot report you as delinquent on that charge. The issuer must acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days. Federal law caps your liability for truly unauthorized charges at $50. If the issuer sides with the merchant and you still disagree, you can appeal in writing and file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.13Federal Trade Commission. Your Rights Under Auto-Renewal Laws
Federal law already covers this situation. The Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA), enacted in 2010, requires online sellers to clearly disclose material terms before collecting billing information, obtain express informed consent before charging, and provide a simple way to stop recurring charges. The FTC can seek civil penalties of up to $53,088 per violation.14Federal Trade Commission. FTC Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule The FTC’s broader “Click-to-Cancel” rule, which would have required cancellation to be as easy as sign-up, was vacated by the Eighth Circuit on July 8, 2025, and as of mid-2026 no replacement is in effect.15U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Custom Communications Inc. v. FTC Opinion
State laws still apply. California’s updated automatic renewal law requires businesses to obtain express affirmative consent, keep a record of that consent, send annual reminders with charge amounts and cancellation methods, and give 7 to 30 days’ notice before any price change. These requirements apply to contracts entered into or renewed on or after July 1, 2025.16California Digital Democracy. AB 2863 – Automatic Renewal and Continuous Service Offers New York, Massachusetts, and Minnesota have enacted similar protections.
Bitdefender has been sued over these practices before. A 2019 California class action, DiLorenzo v. Bitdefender Inc., alleged violations of the state’s False Advertising Law for failing to clearly disclose auto-renewal terms and charging without affirmative consent. It settled for $925,000 with no admission of liability.17Courthouse News Service. Consumer Class Action Filing18Top Class Actions.
