An Asurion credit card charge is almost always a monthly premium for a device protection, extended warranty, or tech support plan that Asurion administers for a wireless carrier, a retailer like Amazon, or directly for itself. If you didn’t recognize it, the usual reason is that the plan was added to a Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Amazon account and the biller on your statement is that company, not Asurion. The charge can be canceled at any time through whoever sold it, and if it was never authorized, your card issuer has to let you dispute it under federal law.
Why the Charge May Not Say Asurion
Asurion rarely bills under its own name. The descriptor on your statement depends on who sold you the plan.
- Verizon-sold plans like Verizon Mobile Protect appear as a line item on the Verizon wireless bill. Standalone plans like Verizon Protect Home are billed to the credit or debit card you provided at enrollment.1Asurion. Verizon Protect Home Terms and Conditions
- AT&T Protect Advantage appears on the AT&T wireless bill.2AT&T. Protect Advantage Terms
- Asurion plans bought through Amazon are billed to the card on file and show up on statements as “Amazon Digital Services.”3Asurion. Amazon Protection Plan FAQs
- Direct Asurion subscriptions, including the discontinued Asurion Home+ and its successor Asurion Tech Care, are more likely to show “Asurion” in the descriptor.
This is why a slightly higher wireless bill or an unfamiliar Amazon charge can trace back to Asurion without the name ever appearing. A $16 to $19 bump on a Verizon statement, for example, is often a Mobile Protect premium that was added to the account.4Verizon. Verizon Mobile Protect FAQs
Match the Amount to a Plan
The dollar figure usually identifies the plan. If it lines up with the tiers below, the charge is a real enrollment, even if you don’t remember agreeing to it.
- Verizon Mobile Protect: $16 or $19 per month for one device, or $38 to $68 per month for multi-device plans covering two to twenty lines.4Verizon. Verizon Mobile Protect FAQs

How to Cancel the Plan
You cancel through whoever sold the plan, not through Asurion in most cases. All Asurion-administered plans are month-to-month with no cancellation penalty.
- Verizon: in My Verizon, remove the plan under “Manage Device” or “Add-ons.” You can also call 1-800-922-0204 or go to a store. Changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.10Verizon. How to Cancel Asurion Wireless Phone Protection

Disputing the Charge With Your Credit Card Issuer
If the charge was never authorized, or the carrier won’t fix it, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a formal dispute route through your card issuer. Send a written letter to the issuer’s billing inquiry address with your name, account number, and a description of the error. The letter has to reach the issuer within 60 days of the date the first statement containing the charge was sent.12Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges
The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days. While the investigation is open, the issuer cannot report the disputed amount as delinquent or try to collect it. If your complaint is about the quality of a service rather than a billing error, you have to try to resolve it with the provider first. You can also file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or report fraud at ReportFraud.ftc.gov if the problem continues.12Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges
One billing pattern worth knowing about: a 2021 class action in New Jersey, Simoni v. Asurion Warranty Services, Inc. et al., alleged that Verizon and Asurion added monthly Smart Home Support (also called Total Home Support) warranty charges to accounts without proper consent, and that paperless billing and autopay made the new charges hard to notice. Consumers in the complaint said they found the fees only after visiting a store for unrelated reasons and seeing a physical receipt.13ClassAction.org. Verizon, Asurion Fraudulently Solicit Sales of Smart Home Support Warranty Plan, Class Action Claims If your charge dates back further than you realized, pull paper or PDF statements for the full period before deciding how much to dispute.
Non-Return Equipment Fees
A separate kind of Asurion charge catches people after they file a claim. When you receive a replacement device, you have to send the old one back within a set window, typically 10 to 30 days depending on the plan. Missing the window can trigger fees of up to $850 under AT&T plans and up to $1,500 under other Asurion contracts.2AT&T. Protect Advantage Terms14Asurion. In documented cases, Asurion’s Regulatory Affairs department has reviewed account histories and waived or adjusted the fee; some consumers have reached that department through a BBB complaint or by calling 615-445-1641.15Better Business Bureau.
