Amy Bradley Case: Casino Tip, Trafficking Lead, and Open Investigation

Amy Lynn Bradley, a 23-year-old from the Richmond, Virginia, area, disappeared from the Royal Caribbean ship Rhapsody of the Seas in the early morning of March 24, 1998, and has never been found. The Amy Bradley case remains an open FBI missing-persons investigation more than 27 years later, and in 2026 the bureau raised its reward to $100,000 for information leading to her recovery or to the arrest of anyone responsible.¹² A 2025 Netflix docuseries has since generated hundreds of new tips, and investigators are now examining possible ties to a Caribbean human-trafficking group.

The Night She Disappeared

Amy was on a seven-day Caribbean cruise with her parents, Ron and Iva, and her brother, Brad. The ship had left San Juan, Puerto Rico, on March 21, 1998.¹³⁴

Douglas told investigators he and Amy parted around 1:00 a.m., but three witnesses said they saw the two together on an upper deck between 5:30 and 5:45 a.m.⁵ At about 5:30 a.m., Ron Bradley saw his daughter sitting on the balcony of the family’s shared stateroom. When the family woke roughly thirty minutes later, she was gone.³ The ship docked in Curaçao shortly afterward.

Persons of Interest

The FBI questioned Douglas soon after the disappearance and gave him a polygraph. The results were described as inconclusive, and authorities found no evidence to charge him.⁶ He was never arrested. As of late 2024, investigative journalist James Renner located Douglas living in a remote mountain community in Grenada, where he serves as a reverend for a small congregation.⁵

The family raised concerns about other crew as well. Brad Bradley recalled that the Blue Orchid bass player had danced uncomfortably close to Amy that night, and Iva Bradley described a waiter who had previously asked for Amy by name and expressed interest in taking her to a bar on land.⁴ No cruise personnel have been charged.

The cruise ship’s entertainment director at the time has maintained a different theory — that Amy fell or jumped overboard. No body has ever been recovered, and the FBI has not closed the case.⁶

Reported Sightings Over the Years

Multiple people have said they encountered a woman they believed was Amy Bradley. None led to her recovery, and authorities have neither publicly confirmed nor denied the accounts.⁴

April 1998, Curaçao. A local taxi driver told Ron and Brad Bradley he had seen a woman matching Amy’s description running and looking for a phone shortly after the ship docked. During the same trip, Brad reported hearing Amy call his name from a passing van but could not locate her.⁷
August 1998, Curaçao. Canadian tourist David Carmichael reported seeing a woman on a beach with tattoos matching Amy’s, including a Tasmanian Devil on her shoulder. She was with two men, one of whom stared at Carmichael and motioned for her to leave. A search of the area turned up nothing.⁷
January 1999, Curaçao. Navy petty officer Bill Hefner said he encountered a woman at a brothel who identified herself as Amy Bradley and said she was being held against her will. He did not report the encounter until years later, after recognizing her photo in a magazine, because he feared disciplinary action for being in an unauthorized area.⁴
2005, Barbados. A tourist named Judy Maurer said a woman in a department store restroom identified herself as Amy, from Virginia, and was then escorted away by several men waiting outside.⁶
2005, anonymous photos. The family received a link to a Caribbean-based adult website featuring images of a woman identified as “Jas.” An FBI forensic analysis concluded the woman “looked like Amy,” but investigators were unable to trace the website’s origin.⁷⁶

A recurring problem with these reports is timing. Many witnesses came forward years after the alleged encounters, making it impossible for investigators to act in real time.⁶

Where the Case Stands Now

In July 2025, Netflix released Amy Bradley Is Missing, a three-episode docuseries directed by Ari Mark and Phil Lott and produced by Ample Entertainment. It featured interviews with FBI officials, the Bradley family, and witnesses who had not spoken publicly before. Amica Douglas, the daughter of Alister “Yellow” Douglas, appeared on camera to say “something is off” about her father’s involvement, and confronted him in the film. He denied any role.⁸

The series generated hundreds of new tips. Investigators identified three as particularly significant.⁹

A female bartender who worked on the Rhapsody of the Seas at the time of the disappearance came forward and said that on the night Amy vanished, she heard someone shouting “Señorita kidnapped! Señorita kidnapped!” and was told by others to be quiet.¹⁰

The family’s missing-persons website, AmyBradleyIsMissing.com, has received recurring traffic from IP addresses in Barbados and Curaçao that spike on American holidays and on dates significant to the Bradley family. One hit was traced to a device on a boat near Barbados.⁹

A source in October 2025 reportedly corroborated the theory that Amy may have had a child after her disappearance. The family has said they have seen no formal evidence confirming this but acknowledge the possibility. Brad Bradley has publicly noted that several people who claimed to be Amy’s children have been ruled out.¹¹¹²

A Caribbean Casino Tip

In 2023, investigators flagged an IP hit on the family’s website coming from a public computer inside a Caribbean casino. During a follow-up, the casino’s general manager said he recognized Amy Bradley, stated she had been in the casino, and said he had her on video. When investigators pressed him for a formal statement, he refused, saying, “I don’t want to say anything else. I’m done.” The specific casino and island have not been publicly identified.¹¹

A Possible Trafficking Group

As of March 2026, director Ari Mark described an “unofficial collaboration” among the FBI, the Bradley family’s private investigator, and himself. According to Mark, two people of interest with trafficking ties have been questioned by the FBI, and investigators believe they may have identified a human trafficking group in the Caribbean potentially responsible for the disappearance.¹¹

Declared Dead, But the Investigation Is Open

Amy Bradley was legally declared dead in 2010.¹³ The legal declaration did not close the FBI investigation, and the family continues to maintain she is alive. The FBI’s April 2026 announcement of the boosted $100,000 reward referred to information leading to her recovery or to the “identification, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible for her death.”³ The Washington, D.C., field office is the primary point of contact, and the FBI has produced age-progressed photographs showing what she might look like in her forties.¹

The family sued Royal Caribbean twice in 1999 over the cruise line’s handling of the disappearance. Both suits were dismissed in 2000, and Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal affirmed the dismissal of the negligence claim in 2002.¹⁴ Congress later enacted the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act in 2010, requiring cruise lines operating from U.S. ports to report missing persons and serious crimes to the FBI and to install higher railings, peepholes, and video surveillance.¹⁵ None of those requirements existed in 1998, and the jurisdictional tangle of crimes at sea, involving the ship’s flag state, the victim’s nationality, and whichever territorial waters the vessel occupied, made investigation harder from the start.¹⁶
