AcornUSA Charge: Why It Hits, How to Cancel, and Refunds

An “ACORNUSA” or “ACORNS” line on your bank or card statement is a recurring monthly subscription fee from Acorns, the micro-investing app run by Acorns Grow Inc. The charge is $3, $6, or $12 depending on which plan is active on the account, and it will keep hitting your account every month until you cancel the subscription itself, not just close an account or delete the app.1Acorns. The transaction descriptor varies by bank and may show up as “ACORNUSA,” “ACORNS,” or “ACH ACORNS.” Acorns pulls the fee from your linked bank account by ACH transfer on the same day each month.

Which Plan You’re Being Billed For

Why the Charge Is Still Hitting Your Account

Most people who are surprised by this charge fall into one of a few groups: they signed up for the free trial and forgot, they deleted the app, they withdrew their money, or they closed an Acorns account and assumed billing stopped. None of those actions cancels the subscription.

The free trial lasts one month. It begins the day you open the account and ends the day before your first billing date. If you don’t cancel before it expires, Acorns automatically charges your linked funding source for whatever plan you picked.5Acorns. Free Trial Terms and Conditions

The bigger trap is the gap between an account and a subscription. Acorns runs several separate account types (Invest, Later, Checking, Emergency, Early Invest), and closing one or all of them does not stop the monthly fee. You have to go into subscription settings and cancel the subscription as its own step.6Acorns Support. One more thing worth knowing: under the program agreement, if your main linked bank account can’t be debited, Acorns can try a secondary funding source, and if that also fails, it can sell ETF shares or stocks in your Acorns accounts to cover the unpaid fee.8Acorns. Acorns Program Agreement
