AAA IdentoGO: Fingerprinting Appointments, Fees, and Service Codes

AAA IdentoGO fingerprinting appointments are run by IdentoGO, not by AAA. Some AAA branches host an IdentoGO enrollment center inside their office space, but AAA staff do not handle the appointment. You schedule through IdentoGO, pay IdentoGO, and an IdentoGO enrollment agent captures your fingerprints on Live Scan equipment and transmits them to the state repository and the FBI for a background check.1IdentoGO. IdentoGO Digital Fingerprinting Whether your appointment is at a AAA location or a standalone center, the process is identical.

Get Your Service Code First

You cannot book anything until you have a Service Code, sometimes called an Agency ID or ORI number. This code tells IdentoGO’s system which agency should receive your background check results, and it comes from whoever is requiring the fingerprints: your employer, a licensing board, or a government agency. The requesting agency either posts the code on its website or sends it during your application process.2IdentoGO. Digital Fingerprint and Electronic Criminal Background Check Services

If you don’t have one, contact the agency and ask. Don’t guess and don’t borrow someone else’s. Using the wrong code sends your prints to the wrong place, and you’ll pay again to redo the entire process.

What Identification to Bring

Most adults need a single valid, unexpired primary photo ID with your full name and date of birth. That includes a state driver’s license, a government-issued ID card, a U.S. passport or passport card, a permanent resident card, a military ID, or a Department of Defense Common Access Card, among others.3IdentoGO. SAFIS Acceptable Forms of Identification One primary document is enough on its own. The enrollment agent will run it through a document authenticator to confirm it’s genuine.

If the name on your ID differs from the name the requesting agency has on file (due to marriage, divorce, or a legal name change), bring an original or certified copy of the court order, marriage certificate, or divorce decree that links the two.3IdentoGO. SAFIS Acceptable Forms of Identification

Applicants under 18 who don’t have a photo ID can present a signed waiver together with a birth certificate bearing an official seal or a Social Security card. Print the waiver before the appointment; it won’t be available at the center.3IdentoGO. SAFIS Acceptable Forms of Identification

Booking the Appointment

With your Service Code and ID ready, go to uenroll.identogo.com or call to schedule. The system asks for your Service Code first to pull up the correct transaction, then lets you search enrollment centers by zip code, city, or airport code. Pick a location (this is where you’d choose a AAA-hosted center if there’s one near you), a date, and a time.

Enter your name, date of birth, and address exactly as they appear on the ID you’re planning to bring. A mismatch, even something as small as a middle name versus a middle initial or a hyphenated last name entered without the hyphen, can block your appointment at check-in. Many transactions require payment by credit card during scheduling, though some agencies provide a billing authorization code that covers the cost on their end. When you finish, you’ll receive a confirmation number or Transaction Control Number (TCN). Save it. That number is your proof of registration and your tracking reference for everything after.

Walk-Ins and Rescheduling

Some centers accept walk-ins, but scheduled appointments come first. Walking in during a busy stretch can mean a long wait or being turned away, so book ahead if you’re on a licensing deadline.

If you need to cancel, do it before your appointment date. IdentoGO’s refund policy requires cancellation prior to the appointment, and refund requests must be submitted within six months of the original payment.4IdentoGO. Refund Policy No-shows generally forfeit the fee. Rescheduling is available through the same enrollment site where you booked.

What Happens at the Appointment

The visit is short. The agent checks you in, verifies your identity against your pre-registration data, and scans your ID. Then comes the Live Scan capture: you roll each finger across a glass plate connected to a digital scanner, and the system records all ten prints electronically.1IdentoGO. IdentoGO Digital Fingerprinting The agent will coach you on pressure and finger placement to get clean images. Scanning itself usually takes under ten minutes.

Dry or worn fingertips can cause quality problems. This happens more than people expect, especially with older applicants, people who work with their hands, or anyone who uses hand sanitizer heavily. If the scanner can’t capture a usable print, the agent may have you wash your hands with warm water or apply lotion and try again. Persistent quality issues can lead the receiving agency to reject the submission, which means a retake at your expense. In some cases the agency will accept a name-based background check as a fallback, but that call is theirs.

What You’ll Pay

The total cost bundles a federal FBI processing fee, a state fee, and an IdentoGO service charge. The FBI’s Identity History Summary Check fee is $18.5Federal Bureau of Investigation. Identity History Summary Checks Frequently Asked Questions State fees vary. The combined total depends on your state and the specific transaction, and it’s shown during scheduling once you enter your Service Code.

If you didn’t pay online, the fee is collected at the center before fingerprinting begins. Keep the receipt. It has your Transaction Control Number, which you’ll need if you ever have to follow up on results or ask for a refund.

After the Appointment

IdentoGO transmits your prints electronically to the state repository and the FBI’s Next Generation Identification system. Electronic submissions are processed in days rather than the weeks the older ink-and-card method required.6IdentoGO. Services Provided by IdentoGO

You generally won’t receive the results yourself. The report goes directly to the licensing board, employer, or agency tied to your Service Code, and how quickly they act on it depends on their own workload. If they need a retake because of print quality, they’ll contact you with instructions to reschedule through IdentoGO.

Federal Programs at the Same Centers

The same enrollment center network handles several federal security programs run by IdentoGO’s parent company IDEMIA. If that’s why you’re going, the fees and rules are separate from a standard background-check appointment.

TSA PreCheck

IDEMIA is an authorized enrollment provider for TSA PreCheck. You start online and finish with an in-person visit for fingerprints and identity verification. New enrollment is $76.75, and membership lasts five years. Renewals are $58.75 online or $66.75 in person.7TSA Enrollment by IDEMIA. TWIC

Workers who need unescorted access to secure maritime facilities and vessels need a Transportation Worker Identification Credential. A new TWIC is $124, with a reduced rate of $93 available in some circumstances. Online renewals are $116, in-person renewals are $124, and a replacement card is $60. All fees are non-refundable. The credential is valid for five years.8Transportation Security Administration. TWIC

HAZMAT Endorsement

Commercial drivers adding a HAZMAT endorsement to their CDL need a TSA background check with fingerprinting. The fee is $85.25 for new and renewing applicants, with a reduced rate of $41 if you already hold a valid TWIC and your state accepts that threat assessment. Some states route HAZMAT applicants through the state DMV rather than the standard enrollment center process, so check TSA’s guidance for your state before booking.9Transportation Security Administration. Avoiding a Wasted Trip

Three things cause almost every problem. First, showing up without a Service Code, or with the wrong one. Confirm it with the requesting agency before you book. Second, name mismatches between your ID and your pre-registration entry. Review your booking details against your ID before you head to the appointment. Third, poor print quality on the day. You can’t fully control this, but hydrated hands and clean fingertips give the scanner the best chance to capture usable images on the first try.
