800-934 Charge on Your Statement: Xfinity, Disputes, and Scams

A charge labeled “800-934” on your bank or credit card statement is almost certainly a payment to Comcast for Xfinity service. The number 1-800-934-6489 spells 1-800-XFINITY and is Comcast’s main residential customer service line, so it turns up inside the merchant descriptor whenever an autopay or manual Xfinity payment runs through your account.1Xfinity. Your Rights and Our Obligations The full descriptor typically reads something like “COMCAST 800-934-6489” followed by a state abbreviation and ZIP code.2Emma. What the Descriptor Looks Like

Comcast payments appear under a handful of descriptor formats depending on how you paid and which bank processes the transaction. Common variants include “COMCAST 800-COMCAST,” “COMCAST/XFINITY,” “Debit Purchase – Visa Comcast Cable Co,” and ACH labels like “ACH HOLD COMCAST CABLE.”2Emma. One reason the charge may look wrong even when it’s legitimate: the total that hits your account is often higher than the advertised monthly rate. Xfinity bills add a broadcast TV fee, a regional sports network fee, FCC and Universal Service Fund fees, franchise fees, regulatory cost recovery charges, and state and local taxes on top of the base price.4Xfinity. If You Don’t Recognize the Charge

An unfamiliar 800-934 charge doesn’t automatically mean fraud. Ordinary explanations include a household member who set up or changed the service, an autopay enrollment you forgot about, a price increase after a promotional period ended, or a one-time charge for on-demand content or an equipment swap. The quickest check is to sign in to your Xfinity account online or in the Xfinity app and compare the statement amount against the most recent bill.6Xfinity. Contact Us

If you have no Xfinity account and have never been a Comcast customer, the charge may mean someone opened an account using your payment details. Comcast has a dedicated identity-theft process for that situation: you file an affidavit with the Comcast Fraud Department and provide proof of identity and residency. Comcast says it will investigate within 30 days and suspend collection activity on the suspect account during the review.7Xfinity. Disputing Through Your Bank or Card Issuer

If Xfinity won’t resolve the problem, or if you believe the charge is truly unauthorized, you have separate rights under federal law. The rules differ depending on which type of card was charged.

Debit Card Charges

Watch for Scams Using the Xfinity Name

If a phone call or voicemail claiming to be from Comcast preceded the mystery charge, be cautious. The FCC has warned about an active scam in which robocalls tell customers that a “50% discount on your monthly bill is set to expire today” and urge an immediate callback.15FCC.
